Warriors Arise: November 21, 2021
Exodus 19:16-20 (NKJV) Then it came to pass on the third day, in the morning, that there were thunderings and lightnings, and a thick cloud on the mountain; and the sound of the trumpet was very loud, so that all the people who were in the camp trembled. 17 And Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. 18 Now Mount Sinai was completely in smoke, because the Lord descended upon it in fire. Its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked greatly. 19 And when the blast of the trumpet sounded long and became louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him by voice. 20 Then the Lord came down upon Mount Sinai, on the top of the mountain. And the Lord called Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up.
So very cool! Can you imagine calling to God, then He answers by voice and comes down. Do you think God does this today? There is nothing in the Bible indicating that God wouldn't do this today.
Jeremiah 31:3 (NKJV)
The Lord has appeared of old to me, saying:
“Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love;
Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.
Hebrews 13:8 (NKJV)
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
I do have to keep in mind, God came down upon the mountain. He did not come down to where Moses was. When we follow history, we see God comes down upon the tent of meeting that was set up outside of camp. He does not come down upon Moses' tent in the camp. When God comes down upon the tent of meeting, Moses when out to meet God. Here in Exodus 19 it begins that God comes down upon the mountain, calls to Moses and he went up.
I wonder if we have missed God when He comes to commune with us. We call to Him. He answers back. He comes down and calls us to join Him, then we stay where we are, we do not go to Him. God called to Moses from His position. By no means do I believe God met Moses half way. I totally believe God came 99% of the way and Moses only had to come 1% of the way. I don't know where heaven is, but with science I know they haven't found heaven. Our telescopes can't see that far. God came a long way to meet with Moses and celebrate with His people, the children of Israel, the ones He freed from a life of bondage and slavery. He came a long way to commune with them. When He arrives, He called to Moses and he went up.
1 John 4:17-19 (NKJV) Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. 19 We love Him because He first loved us.
God's love has been perfected among us. Not only can we call to God but we can approach Him boldly, confidently, knowing our value and His desire to commune with us.
Hebrews 4:14-16 (NKJV) Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Moses didn't go up the mountain afraid. The heavens were thundering, the sky was filled with lightning, and the smoke fell over the entire mountain. Once he walked up the mountain and entered the smoke no one would see him. God said He would come in three days and He is here. Now He is calling to Moses to come up to meet with Him. When you pray, when you call out to God, do you sense His coming to meet with you? Do you call to Him as He makes His entrance? Do you listen for His response? Do you hear Him call your name to come to meet Him?
Psalms 116:1-9
I love the Lord, because He has heard
My voice and my supplications.
2 Because He has inclined His ear to me,
Therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live.
3 The pains of death surrounded me,
And the pangs of Sheol laid hold of me;
I found trouble and sorrow.
4 Then I called upon the name of the Lord:
“O Lord, I implore You, deliver my soul!”
5 Gracious is the Lord, and righteous;
Yes, our God is merciful.
6 The Lord preserves the simple;
I was brought low, and He saved me.
7 Return to your rest, O my soul,
For the Lord has dealt bountifully with you.
8 For You have delivered my soul from death,
My eyes from tears,
And my feet from falling.
9 I will walk before the Lord
In the land of the living.
Father, You hear me with I call out to You. I stand in awe of Your love for me. You have placed great things inside of me. We are on this amazing journey together. It is hard and difficult at times but You sustain me. You remove the yoke of heaviness, because You never intended for me to carry the load. Your yoke is easy, because I am linked to You. You carry the load. You lead me where I am to go. You teach me of Your amazing goodness, kindness, and faithfulness. You come 99% of the way and I will come the rest. I will meet in the place You are. I pray my senses are open and I recognize when You are present. I will call to You and hear You respond. You are my God and I will come when You call my name in Jesus' name amen.
