Matthew 5:5
Blessed are the meek,
For they shall inherit the earth.
I was going to move on, but the Lord would not let me. He is asking one questions. "Are you going to get your inheritance?"
Your inheritance isn't Salvation. Heaven isn't your inheritance. Salvation is what gets you and I into God's family. Therefore, heaven is our home in eternity. Your inheritance is the world and those in it. People are your inheritance. How many people are your going to take with you to your heavenly home?
Over the last several days we have covered this particular blessing. There is no coincidence that this blessing is Matthew 5:5. We are going to need a whole lot of grace given to us and extended from us to inherit the world and the people of the world. The number five means grace. Therefore, we get grace squared, not just five plus five but five times five!
When we struggle with operating in meekness (the definition shared in previous devotions from this week), we have the ability to tap into God's grace. There are times I want to win a discussion becuase I want them to know the truth. However, there are times I have to demonstrate truth. The truth that I trust God to work all things our for their good as well as mine. Through my meekness, they see God's love.
In the midst of the discussion, to access meekness, I might have to say to myself, "Grace! Grace!"
Zechariah 4:7
‘Who are you, O great mountain?
Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain!
And he shall bring forth the capstone
With shouts of “Grace, grace to it!” ’ ”
The mountain of disagreement needs grace. therefore, within me, I speak, "Grace! Grace!" I do not want this to get to an argument. I know when a discussion gets to an argument not only have I lost but so has God. Therefore, I need grace to continue the discussion without it leading ot an argument. They need grace so their mind will open up and they will receive the truth God is wanting to reveal to them. And sometimes, I am the one who needs the grace, so my mind clearly understands what they are saying.
Have you ever been in a discussion that led to an argument only to find out in the end you were the one who lacked the understanding? Maybe you haven't been in that situation, but I have. Meekness has been a wonderful asset to representing Christ better. Sometimes my pleasant silence has been provoking, but it is not meant ot provoke. It is meant to stop things from getting out of hand, things being said that shouldn't be said. So, I speak, "Grace! Grace!" to the mountain of contention. I want to represent Jesus well and bring my inheritance to heaven with me.
Father, I ask for You to come and minister understanding in meekness. I want to receive my inheritance. I do not want to turn anyone off from pursuing You. I want to be strength under control and peace to surround me. I desire to bring a way to resolve a conflict and both of us to draw nearer to You. I ask for my inheritance. I ask for the land and the occupants of the land to know You and one day be in heaven celebrating You together in Jesus' name amen!
