Yep, He's Still Going

Warriors Arise: April 6, 2023

1 Chronicles 16:7-28 (NKJV) On that day David first delivered this psalm into the hand of Asaph and his brethren, to thank the Lord:

8 Oh, give thanks to the Lord!

Call upon His name;

Make known His deeds among the peoples!

9 Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him;

Talk of all His wondrous works!

10 Glory in His holy name;

Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord!

11 Seek the Lord and His strength;

Seek His face evermore!

12 Remember His marvelous works which He has done,

His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth,

13 O seed of Israel His servant,

You children of Jacob, His chosen ones!

14 He is the Lord our God;

His judgments are in all the earth.

15 Remember His covenant forever,

The word which He commanded, for a thousand generations,

16 The covenant which He made with Abraham,

And His oath to Isaac,

17 And confirmed it to Jacob for a statute,

To Israel for an everlasting covenant,

18 Saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaan

As the allotment of your inheritance,”

19 When you were few in number,

Indeed very few, and strangers in it.

20 When they went from one nation to another,

And from one kingdom to another people,

21 He permitted no man to do them wrong;

Yes, He rebuked kings for their sakes,

22 Saying, “Do not touch My anointed ones,

And do My prophets no harm.”

23 Sing to the Lord, all the earth;

Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.

24 Declare His glory among the nations,

His wonders among all peoples.

25 For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised;

He is also to be feared above all gods.

26 For all the gods of the peoples are idols,

But the Lord made the heavens.

27 Honor and majesty are before Him;

Strength and gladness are in His place.

28 Give to the Lord, O families of the peoples,

Give to the Lord glory and strength.

David has a lot to say. He is still going, exhorting the people to embrace God. He wants them to see the honor and majesty of God. He wants them to experience the strength and gladness that are in His place. They say you can recognize a good leader, because when he/she is absent everything continue to run smoothly. This reveals the strength of God in His place. When Jesus returns to heaven, the world doesn't fall apart. We may seem like we are quickly going to hell in a hand basket, but God is not on His throne shaking by what is happening on Earth. He is broken hearted at the lack of agape, compassion, joy, and tenacity needed to advance His kingdom.

I can't help but wonder who David is speaking to or thinking about when he says, "Give to the Lord, O families of the peoples". In verse 26, he as talking about the gods of the people are idols. Is he talking to his people who have embraced the idols of the nations around them? Part of me wants to believe, he was talking to the foreigners when he referenced "the peoples"; however, he may be referring to the Israelites, his own people, who have embraced idols in place of God. I can't tell if David is speaking to the foreigners within their country or that surround their country. It would seem he recognizes a difference, a way to to know who is who or better yet, who is for who.

Those who are for God will give to the Lord glory, honor, majesty, and strength. They will recognize God as the creator of the heavens. Those who embrace idols will not give the Lord glory, honor, majesty, or strength. They will not see see honor and majesty before Him. They will not see strength and gladness in His presence. They cannot see, because they have given their beliefs over to idols of stone, wood and clay. Their worship of those lifeless pieces cause them to snuggle with the ability. When we have aligned ourselves with a belief so strong, we cannot see what is right before our eyes. David is still talking, still exhorting, still trying to wake up the people to see God right before them. If they can't see God today, when will they be able to see Him? Today was a glorious day as God's presence returned to all of His people. Today eyes should be opened. Today God's majesty should be evident. Today God's gladness is being revealed. Today the people need to wake up, come out of their slumber and get their hearts aligned with God. You can hear David begin to plead with the people, "If you would just look, you would see. God is right here. He is before you. He is with you."

Father, I ask for You to open my eyes. I want to see You before me. I want to know Your honor and majesty. I want to celebrate Your involvement in my life. I want to know Your goodness and strength. You are worthy of my praise. I will lift Your name on high. Open my eyes to see You clearly. Awaken my heart to know You presence. Renew my mind to believe in all that You have done and promise to do. I will worship You for You are full of love that is extended to me. I receive Your love, for Your love never fails. You are good and worthy of my praise in Jesus' name amen.
