Oh!

Warriors Arise: April 11, 2023

1 Chronicles 16:7-29 (NKJV) On that day David first delivered this psalm into the hand of Asaph and his brethren, to thank the Lord:

8 Oh, give thanks to the Lord!

Call upon His name;

Make known His deeds among the peoples!

9 Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him;

Talk of all His wondrous works!

10 Glory in His holy name;

Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord!

11 Seek the Lord and His strength;

Seek His face evermore!

12 Remember His marvelous works which He has done,

His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth,

13 O seed of Israel His servant,

You children of Jacob, His chosen ones!

14 He is the Lord our God;

His judgments are in all the earth.

15 Remember His covenant forever,

The word which He commanded, for a thousand generations,

16 The covenant which He made with Abraham,

And His oath to Isaac,

17 And confirmed it to Jacob for a statute,

To Israel for an everlasting covenant,

18 Saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaan

As the allotment of your inheritance,”

19 When you were few in number,

Indeed very few, and strangers in it.

20 When they went from one nation to another,

And from one kingdom to another people,

21 He permitted no man to do them wrong;

Yes, He rebuked kings for their sakes,

22 Saying, “Do not touch My anointed ones,

And do My prophets no harm.”

23 Sing to the Lord, all the earth;

Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.

24 Declare His glory among the nations,

His wonders among all peoples.

25 For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised;

He is also to be feared above all gods.

26 For all the gods of the peoples are idols,

But the Lord made the heavens.

27 Honor and majesty are before Him;

Strength and gladness are in His place.

28 Give to the Lord, O families of the peoples,

Give to the Lord glory and strength.

29 Give to the Lord the glory due His name;

Bring an offering, and come before Him.

Oh, worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness!

The last line in verse twenty nine challenges me to get understanding. I can hear David's heart cry for the people to understand. When he says, "Oh," it just grabs my attention. It is as if he is saying, "Oh, if you only knew! Oh, If you only understood what we did today. Oh, if you would seek to know God as He wants to be known." The "Oh" seems like a cry of his heart for the people to engage with God, reconnect, make Him their God, and cultivate a relationship with Him.

We tend to think people can't have a relationship with God until after they get saved. That isn't true. Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, all had a relationship with God before the cross. Throughout the Old Testament there are writings of history where people had a relationship with God. It seems David wants the people to have a relationship with God like he does. It isn't in arrogance; it is purity of heart. He was nothing. He was the youngest of his brothers and God met him; God had him anointed. God portected him through every battle and made His ways known to David. Why did God do these things with David and for him?

Several times in Scripture we see David in a fix and he turned to the Lord. God wants us to turn to Him. David was trying to communicate with the people to turn to God and embrace Him as their own. Scriptures say that he inquired of the Lord. We only see it recorded after David flees for his life from Saul. However, it would seem he learned to do this early in his life, back when he was a shepherd boy out in the pasture with the sheep.

The presence of God is beautiful and David wants the people to see this. Do you see God as beautiful? Do you see His holiness as beautiful? Do you see His desire to be involved in your life as beautiful? Do you see His strength as beautiful? Do you see His honor as beautiful? Do you see His majesty as beautiful? The holiness of God is beautiful.

When we struggle and begin to question God's holiness, His perfection, then we struggle to see God as beautiful. In our eyes, the holiness of God is tainted when our mind does not agree with how our life is going or things in the world are happening. Therefore, we must renew our mind to trust God in all situation, so we can see the beauty of God's holiness and celebrate Him.

Father, I lay myself before You. I desire to have my mind renewed by Your Word, to know the truth of all that You are. Every thought that does not align with the truth of who You are, I ask to be exposed and made right. I will get rid of everything that doesn't align with the truth of who You are. I pray for a cleansing of my mind. I pray to see You as You are. I pray to know the fullness of You. I trust You in all situations. I know You will work things in my favor. I will know the beauty of Your holiness, because I will trust You and Your ways in Jesus' name amen.
