Isaiah 43:19 (NKJV)

Behold, I will do a new thing,

Now it shall spring forth;

Shall you not know it?

I will even make a road in the wilderness

And rivers in the desert.

There are so many times I totally miss it! I think when God says, "Now it shall spring forth" that it means wait and see, it might take a while, maybe it will happen in my lifetime, etc. I have learned to listen closely to what God is saying and when He says, "Now…" it means right now. He had put things in motion from the time He said, "Now."

When I look up in Strong's the definition now in this verse it says: henceforth. I had to stop and let that sink in. Henceforth means from this time forward. It starts now and continues. It doesn't stop. The Now thing is happening right now and will continue. It will not stop until He says it is done. This is very challenging. A couple of thoughts that have to be changed.

First, when God says, "Now" then He means it is beginning right now.

Second, when God says, "Now" He intends to continue the flow until it reaches it's full potential, until it becomes a Psalm 78:18, wondrous thing of God.

In Psalm 78:18 we are told God only does wondrous things. There are so many things God beings in the "now" but they do not seem to reach fulfillment. It is like bringing bread out of the open before it has risen completely. When bread is brought out of the over before it has risen it will not even hold the growth it gained in the heat of the oven, it will deflate or in baking terms, it will drop.

When God says, "Now" He is putting all things together to bring about His plan. When I bake a birthday cake for my children, I have been planning it for at least a week. I have asked them what flavor they like and their birthday theme so I can get an idea for what might do for their cake. Generally, Scott buys what is needed to make the cake. Then the night before their party, after they go to bed, I get out all the ingredients and prepare the batter. I set the temperature on the oven and select the cake pans I need to go along with how I plan to decorate their cake. Once the temperature is correct, I put the cake in the oven and set my timer. Keep in mind, my kids know this is what I do. It has become my gift to them. I will stay up hours decorating their cake and cleaning up. I try not to leave any hints of what I did, so I wash all the dishes and put them away. I don't even want them to know what cake pan I used nor the color of the frostings I created. When I am done, I hide the cake. They play along. They have learned patience, sometimes they look for their cake and are disappointed when they can't find it. Maybe they have found it and haven't told me, for which I am grateful. But the pictures tell of their amazement when we present their cake to them. Oh, how I love that look of awe in their eyes. It does challenge me for the next time.

God plans for the now before the now begins. He anticipates the now He has put together for us. It will be a surprise. It shall spring forth like the event of my child's birthday. They know it is going to happen. They know what is going to happen. They know we have all been planning to celebrate them. They have made cards for the birthday child and a special supper has been made. My kids know the routine. They know I am going to bake their cake and decorate it to their theme. They anticipate what it will look like and how it will taste. What would happen if they decided they were going to come into the kitchen and get their cake out of the oven before the timer when off? Their cake would fall. I would have to start over. What if I didn't have a back up cake? How would that change what I intended for their surprise?

I have to trust when God says, "now" He is putting things together for my good, right now. It is not in the distance; it is not in the sweet by and by. Jesus has already prepared a place for me in heaven. But God is talking about right here, about now, right now. Isaiah 43:19 is not talking about heaven. It is talking about now. I must trust God is putting things together for me just like He is for you. He has already set in motion the road in the wilderness and the river in the dessert. Watch and see what God will do because He has set a new thing in motion for you, now, it shall spring forth.

Father, I pray for my heart to be receptive for what You are doing. I ask for my heart to believe you are working on my behalf. I do not have to check on You to see if You have done what You promised. I know and trust You are doing what You promised. I pray to have eyes to see it. I pray my mind will receive it. I pray for patience as I see it unfolding before me. I pray I will drink from the river You provide in my desert. I pray for the strength to get up and walk the road You have provided in the wilderness. Open my eyes to see, heart to believe and strength to embrace what You have done for me in Jesus' name amen.
