1 Chronicles 15:1 (NKJV) David built houses for himself in the City of David; and he prepared a place for the ark of God, and pitched a tent for it.
Why would it be important for David to have a place of his own? I love what this represents. David had never had a place of his own in Israel. It represents something permanent. But it is so much more than that. It represent the fulfillment of God's Word over his life. David had been a shepherd. He had been a servant in the house of the former king. He had been warrior. He had been an outcast. He had been a refugee. But now, God's Word had become a reality. God was establishing David as king. As David builds the houses for himself, there has to be a good deal of emotion. Each brick, each stone erected into a room, making the promise of God a reality, a physical manifestation of God's Word. How many of us are waiting for the time when the promise of God becomes the reality of God?
Are you prepared to "build a house", something tangible, something permanent that represents the reality of God's Word coming to fruition in your life? David would no longer be a refugee, an outcast, a wanderer among the hills. David would be established in God's promise.
There are times when God speaks a word to us, as He did through Samuel when he anointed David to be the next king of Israel. Nowadays for many people, the prophet and the gift of prophecy are rarely seen or heard. There are prophets and those who are led by the Spirit of God to prophesy; however, they and what they say are not generally received in many mainstream Christian environments. Which is another way we shut out the voice of God. This may be the cause of so many people not knowing their purpose, calling or destiny. We do not have an environment of receiving the prophet or one who prophesies within our church walls. There is not a safe place for those who are operating in the gift of prophecy nor the office of the prophet, to be the voice-piece of God. We are missing out on a fundamental gift of Holy Spirit and the structure of ministry within our churches, because the gifts and offices of ministry are not represented, nurtured, nor honored. Here in David's life the Word of the prophet Samuel is permanently established through the building of his house. The building of David's houses in the city, he conquered, represents the reality of the promise of God over his life. David would no longer be wandering. He would no longer be on the run. He would no longer be an outcast. God had established him as king over His people. David conquered the city he wanted and built his houses. It was time for the promise of God to be reality.
Do you know the Word of God for your life? Do you know His promise? Most of us have probably not had a prophet prophesy over our life. If you have, what a blessing. If you haven't, then time with God is necessary. Time to go behind closed doors, without anything to distract us, as we position ourselves to listen. Then be looking for opportunities, the doors to open to prepare for the Word of God to become reality. It started for David while he was a shepherd, killing a lion and a bear to protect his father's sheep. He was not king yet. He was years from the reality of the promise, but one day he would build a house and the Word of God would be reality. What God said would be established and would be a reality for all to see. David had prepared and waited for the people to align with God's word. Now, he built houses which would begin to bring stability to a hurting, divided nation. David had been among them before and served them well in each battle campaign against the Philistines. Now, he is established before them as their king. Building the houses was a sign of God's Word becoming reality for himself and the people he would now serve, as king. He was first God's chosen king, then year's later the people acknowledged him as their king.
Father, have I had a prophet speak Your promise over me? Would you remind me of that word? Have I agreed with it? Have I begun training for when it becomes reality? If I haven't had a word from a prophet will You remind me of a particular promise ,You have given to me, specifically for me to become? I may not have been ready for it. Forgive me for not receiving it. Forgive me for thinking it was too much for me or that I was unable to fulfill what You promised. I pray I would agree with the promises you have for my life. I pray I would prepare for what You have said. I pray I would not forget Your Word over my life. I pray I would not get distracted by all the things of this world. I pray You would protect me and Holy Spirit would guide me. I ask for Your Word to become reality in my life. I pray I would be established in Your promise, in Your calling upon my life. I pray I would know when to build the house as a covenant to the people You have called me to serve and that I would align with Your calling upon my life. I will know what You have promised me and I will align myself with Your promise. I will seek You and follow You all of the days of my life, for You are faithful and Your Word will not fall to the ground void in Jesus' name amen.
