John 3:9 (NKJV) Nicodemus answered and said to Him, “How can these things be?”

How many times have people seen the miraculous of God and said, "How can this be?"

  • Rain, so much rain it covered the earth and only Noah, his family and the designated animals survived.

  • Children of Israel crossed the Red Sea on dry ground.

  • Pharaoh and his army chased them through the Red Sea.

  • The Wall of Jericho came down.

  • Fire came from heaven to consume the offering of Elijah on Mt. Carmel.

  • Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego walked around in the flaming furnace and came out unharmed.

  • Daniel came out of the lion's den, alive.

  • Jesus and the His disciples fed the 5,000.

  • Jesus healed the leapers and the blind.

  • Jesus delivered the demoniac of a 1,000 demons.

  • Jesus raised the dead.

  • Jesus rose from the dead!

Seriously, there are too many to list. We have to say, "Only God can do this." Nicodemus had come to his God-encounter moment. He is faced with having to step away from logical and step into faith. He wasn't the first to have to come to terms with something that wasn't logical. Mary, Jesus' mother asked the Gabriel the same question.

Luke 1:34-35 (NKJV) Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?” 35 And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.

When we encounter a revelation of God expanding our knowledge and experience we have a choice to make. We can remain logical and just outside of what God is wants to invite us to be a part of or we can receive in faith trusting God to work out the details.

  • The Holy Spirit continues to come upon us, not to impregnate us but to give us strength to believe what God is doing in our lives.

  • The Holy Spirit gives us the courage to walk each day in faith and embrace what God is teaching us.

  • The Holy Spirit is our Guide, Counselor, and Comforter.

  • The Holy Spirit helps us to receive what God is doing in us and in the lives of those around us.

  • The Holy Spirit gives us the courage to believe God still does the miraculous and wants us to be a part of it like Noah, Moses, Rehab, Joshua, Gideon, Daniel, Elijah, Elisha, Mary, Peter and Paul.

I have learned that when my mind cannot comprehend the revelation God is revealing I have to ask the Holy Spirit to open my mind to understand. I have learned when I see a miracle or hear of the miraculous happening that God is in the midst. He has done a great thing. Who am I to determine,"How can this be?" My position as God's child is to operate in child-like faith and believe. As I child I respond,"Yes, that's my God. He is amazing! He is doing it again! He is demonstrating His awesome power, because He can't contain His love." I'm not kidding, that is how I allow the miraculous of God to stick to me and grow my faith, rather than let it slip out of my reach and wonder if my eyes have deceived me or my ears heard something inconceivable. What does it matter if I can conceive it? It didn't come from me. It came from God. It is not my place to conceive the miracle. It is my place to recognize the work of my God in the midst of His people here on earth. To question what God is doing is to place myself above God. I am not the Creator of this world and I am not the Redeemer of this world; therefore, I am not the judge of what God does or doesn't do. I am His daughter; therefore, I have the privilege to stand in awe of what my Heavenly Father does. I am to have faith as His child. I am to know He is good and He does wondrous things.

Psalms 72:18 (NKJV) Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, Who only does wondrous things!

How do I know if something is God? It is a wondrous thing! It is beyond what I can think or imagine which means it is going to cause my faith to grow and my brain to accept the greatness of my God. My God is to be admired, adored, praised and appreciated for all He does. He is not to be questioned and made to explain Himself. When we reach the point, like Mary and Nicodemus, we are asking to learn from God, not to question Him (which is why they both were blessed with explanation). They were given the ability to understand. Their question was not with the attitude that God or Jesus would have to explain Themselves, it was to learn and comprehend. Nicodemus wanted to understand. I believe that is why Jesus answered his question.

Father, I come before You wanting to receive understanding. I have so many questions but I don't think I ask the right question. I ask for You to highjack our time together and direct my questions. What is it I really need to know? I want to learn from You. My questions only keep me in bondage. I know I have to yield and lay them down. I don't want to come into Your presence unwilling to learn from you, because I am carrying so many questions. I want to come in empty handed and an open vessel for You to begin writing on my mind the things I need to know. I want You to expand my understanding and for my faith to grow. It isn't about being built up with knowledge, that I will never use. It is about learning Your ways and having faith grow to reach those You bring my way. I put my questions down and come into Your presence to receive what You know I need to know, in Jesus' name amen.
