Luke 19:1-5 (NKJV) Then Jesus entered and passed through Jericho. 2 Now behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus who was a chief tax collector, and he was rich. 3 And he sought to see who Jesus was, but could not because of the crowd, for he was of short stature. 4 So he ran ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see Him, for He was going to pass that way. 5 And when Jesus came to the place, He looked up and saw him, and said to him, “Zacchaeus, make haste and come down, for today I must stay at your house.

Yesterday, I shared about the importance of making haste when the Lord tells you to do something. It will always benefit you to respond exactly to what the Lord is saying. Today, we will focus on come down. We can get ourselves into a place or position to see Jesus, but when Jesus calls to us to come down there might be some reservation.

Being positioned above someone can give us a feeling of power and authority. Zacchaeus was short in stature, he had never loomed over someone else. It might be pretty intimidating to have Jesus, the one the crowd is following, call you out in front of every one. He wants you to come down, to cause you to leave your place of security and possible empowerment.

When I read the words come down, there is also a surrender of mind and heart. When I come down it places me in a position to receive. I think of a pitcher pouring into a glass. To get water from the pitcher to the glass, I have to raise the pitcher above the glass. I am a vessel in the hands of God. I make myself available for when He wants to meet with me. I position myself to see Him, watch His every move and listen. If a glass remains above the pitcher no water will be poured into the glass. I recognize Jesus is my pitcher. His is the Living Water. What He has to offer will never run out. I am the glass. I need the Living Water Jesus has to offer, but I have to place myself, under Jesus. I have to come down from the shelf and position myself to receive from Him.

When I come off the shelf, receive what Jesus is pouring, then I will have something to give me strength and also to give others. How is that? I'm not the pitcher. But my kids love to drink from my glass! Anybody else have that situation? They could have the same water in their glass as I do and they will drink out of mine!

We need to be ready when people don't want to put in the effort to drink from what Jesus has given them, because they often come to drink what Jesus has given us. We have spent time, we have received His Word and applied it to our lives. I learned years ago, people don't necessarily what me they want what I have inside. They want the Jesus I have to offer.

Colossians 1:27 (NKJV) To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

Yes, get off of the shelf, come down and allow Jesus to pour Living Water in you. It is refreshing, cleansing and purifying. We freely receive from Jesus and are commanded to give freely what we have received. Be a vessel of the Lord Jesus Christ, let His Living Water flow out of you.

Father, I will come down. I will come off of the shelf. I will allow You to pour Your Living Water into me. I will allow others to drink of Your goodness from me. You will always keep me full when I come down and position myself before You. I worship You and You are lifted up into a position where You can pour into me again and again. Thank You for Your faithfulness to call to me and instruct me. Thank You for telling me to come down. My shelf time is over and I will be filled with Your Living Water to offer to others and achieve what You have put inside of me in Jesus' name amen.
