Aren't They the Same?

Warriors Arise: May 3, 2021

Daniel 6:25-27 (NKJV) Then King Darius wrote: To all peoples, nations, and languages that dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied to you. 26 I make a decree that in every dominion of my kingdom men must tremble and fear before the God of Daniel. For He is the living God, And steadfast forever; His kingdom is the one which shall not be destroyed, And His dominion shall endure to the end. 27 He delivers and rescues,

Delivers: to leave, free

Rescue: to extricate (to free), deliver.

I wanted to look up delivers and rescues because in my mind they were saying the same thing. According to the Strong's concordance for the Hebrew words and definitions, they are the similar words. Why would Darius use a word in his decree that would be redundant?

When we are sharing and getting a sense of the individual we are talking to isn't understanding what we are saying, either we restate what we have said or we find a similar word to bring clarity. We want them to really understand what we are sharing. We want them to embrace it as truth. Truth isn't necessarily in question; however, the fullness of the experience, either how dramatic it was or how amazing is. We give further words of explanation to try to get them to fully grasp what happened.

There are also times when we will use multiple similar words to give emphasis to the importance of what we are sharing. If you didn't hear it with the first significant word then we hope they will get it with the added adjective or adverbs. With these words we try to help their mind to comprehend what we experienced or what we know as truth.

Darius is wanting the people to understand the living God will deliver those who serve Him faithfully. He wants them to know Who He is and what He can do for those who honor Him. Remember what he said to Daniel just before he was thrown into the lions' den, ""But the king spoke, saying to Daniel, "Your God, who, you serve continually, He will deliver you."" Darius spoke those words over Daniel. He was giving Daniel hope, "Your God will deliver you. Remember, you have been faithful to serve Him."

Darius was set on Daniel's deliverance. It was a long, sleepless night. Darius could hardly contain himself. He rose early the next morning and hastened to the lions' den. He was in a hurry to find out if Daniel's God had delivered him. Remember what he asked after the stone has been removed? "Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to deliver you from the lions?" He couldn't wait any longer. He needed to know if Daniel's God had delivered him. Darius may have prayed the same thing over and over that night, "Daniel's God, the living God, I have heard of no one like You. Daniel is faithful to You even unto this sentence of death. Daniel did not obey my decree. He did not pray to me. He has been faithful to honor You and You alone. I know no other servant as faithful to their god like Daniel is to You. You are the living God, Daniel has been faithful to worship only You. Come and deliver him. I could do nothing but You, You can deliver him from the lions." Over and over again, I can hear Darius calling to the living God, declaring Daniel's faithfulness to Him, and petitioning for His deliverance.

Now, as Darius is lifting up the living God before the people within his dominion, he wants to make sure they understand. This God, Daniel's God, the only living God. He delivers and rescues. It is as if he is saying, "The Living God sets you free! Did you hear me? He gives you freedom!"

What do you need set free from today? Are you in the lions' den? Has someone thrown you under the bus? Do you need freedom from torment? Do you need freedom in your health? Are you looking for the living God to deliver and rescue you?

Father, You are the living God. You deliver and rescue me. You free me from bondage. You free me from the snare of the enemy. You deliver me from destruction and cause my feet to be set upon solid ground. You rescue me from the devourer. You are my God. I look to You because You are the only One who can deliver me. You are the only One who sees where I am trapped and can bring me out. I look to You because You are the only One who can rescue me. You are the only One who can sustain me while I wait and can get behind enemy lines to bring me out. Thank You for Your amazing love. I am delivered because of Your kindness toward me. I am free. I am rescued because of Your power over the enemy. I am free in Jesus' name amen.
