Blind Spot

Warriors Arise: October 31, 2022

1 Samuel 20:1-2 (NKJV) Then David fled from Naioth in Ramah, and went and said to Jonathan, “What have I done? What is my iniquity, and what is my sin before your father, that he seeks my life?” 2 So Jonathan said to him, “By no means! You shall not die! Indeed, my father will do nothing either great or small without first telling me. And why should my father hide this thing from me? It is not so!”

While the Spirit of God is detaining Saul in Naioth, David runs back to Jonathan. He wants answers. But Jonathan doesn't have any. It would appear that Jonathan didn't know anything about the messengers/deputies being sent to get David from his own home nor when they were sent to Ramah to bring him back so Saul could kill him. Jonathan really does have a pure heart. He believes the best of David and the best of his father. It would seem, he has a blind spot when it comes to knowing his father's intent.

All David wants to know, "What have I done?" Jonathan doesn't have an answer. Jonathan thinks his father tells him everything; but he didn't tell him about the messengers being sent after David.

Have you been in a situation where you believed so wholeheartedly, and you later found out you had a blind spot? In your heart, you could not believe an individual would do something bad, deceitful, or harmful toward another; then you are called upon to check into a conflict. In the process of checking out the facts, your blind spot is exposed. At this point you have a decision to believe the revealed truth or to embrace a lie, because you do not want to believe the truth.

Did you know that when you reject the truth and believe the lie, in your mind, the lie becomes the truth. The lie isn't the truth, but it is what you believe so you respond as if it is truth. It is dangerous when we have embraced a lie as truth. It will eventually be to our detriment. We must be willing to investigate and be accountable to hear the truth, seek the truth, and embrace the truth. When a lie is exposed we must reject the lie immediately and make all provision to set our minds on the truth.

Father, I ask for You to reveal any lie I have embrace and believed as truth. I was wrong to entertain it. I was wrong to take the lie and make it my own truth, because I wanted to make an exception. I will not allow the lie to live in me. I will not allow the lie to take over my thoughts. I will not allow the lie to dictate what I believe. I will believe the truth. I will search for the truth. I will embrace the truth no matter how difficult it may seem. I will know the truth and it will set me free from the lies in Jesus' name amen.
