John 15:15 (NKJV) No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.
A servant only knows what the Master wants him/her to do. A servant does not know what the Master is doing. They do not know the purpose, the why, the end result the Master is looking to achieve. This brings up two points before we move into the next relationship. If you do not know what the Master wants you to do, then your relationship with God is not personal. You may have a great deal of knowledge about God, but you don't know God, possibly not even as a sheep. Sheep know the voice of their shepherd. If you don't know what God has for you to do, then do you know His voice? If the Good Shepherd were to call or whistle to get the herd moving would you even know the whistle? Maybe the reason you remain where you are day after day, month after month and year after year, is because you have not trained your ear to hear the Good Shepherd. Maybe you used to hear God's voice, but you have told Him no too many times, You have remained behind as He moves the flock to the next pasture and you are lost and all alone.
To hear God there are three things that have to be embedded into your life:
Settle your mind. Stop trying to figure out the answer and listen for the answer. If you figure out the answer, then it was you, not God. Hearing God is like getting a download of information, like when your computer or phone needs an update. Hearing God is a transfer of information from God to you, because He knows you will need what He is sharing.
Ready to say, "Yes.``" Whatever He tells you to do, you will do without hesitation. You will listen for full instructions before moving on. This allows you to move with God instead of without Him. You will also know for sure that it is God speaking to you.
Know the Word of God or check it with the Word. If God tells you to give a gentle answer, you know it is God because that is Scriptural.
Once we have established hearing God's voice, the way He talks to us, then we enter into the Master to servant. God knows we hear Him; therefore, He can send us on God-assignments. The better you and I get as hearing God's voice and responding quickly the more He can use us in-the-moment. These are Divine opportunities God gives us, because He needs someone ready to encourage, edify, or speak His wisdom in that very moment. Because God can trust us to do what He says to do; we can catch them before they fall in the pit or to the bottom of the pit, before they make that wrong decision.
Now that we have bridged the gap between sheep to servant, we need to see the relationship begin as if we are climbing up a ladder. The relationships can be developed from one type of relationship to another. However, life can throw a circumstance at us and we need to learn a different relationship than what we know. It can also cause us to return to a type fo relationship needed. All six of the relationships God offers us are interchangeable. As we learn each one, we are enhancing our relationship with God. There is so much to learn about being the clay, following as sheep, and serving our Master. What we do know is that in John 15:15, listed at the beginning of today's blog, there is a time when Jesus will tell us He no longer calls us servants but friends. That is a beautiful gift.
Friendship is a gift. Most people go through life never making the time to create a real friendship. We do not know how to show up as our true authentic self. Mainly, because we do not know us. We trick ourselves into thinking we believe a certain way, but then our actions do not follow. We tell everyone what our thoughts are on the matter, but if they were to look into our lives they would see contradiction. Being a friend of God is amazing. But how many of us have allow God to be our friends. Ask yourself two questions:
Do I allow myself to be God's friend?
Do I allow God to be my friend?
Father, thank You. Thank You for calling me Your friend. Thank You for being my friend. I can count on You. You share with me Your plans, strategies and insight. You want me to win. I will succeed because You are with me. Teach me about friendship. Teach me to invest in others who will become my friends. Teach me to receive from others as I learn to be a friend and have friends. Guide me in these relationships. Teach me how to be a friend to You. Thank you for calling me Your friend. Thank You for being my friend, someone I can trust and will take the time to invest in. Thank You in Jesus name amen.
