1 Chronicles 16:1-2 (NKJV) So they brought the ark of God, and set it in the midst of the tabernacle that David had erected for it. Then they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before God. 2 And when David had finished offering the burnt offerings and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord.
What would it mean to be blessed in the name of the Lord? If someone were to speak a blessing over you and then invoke the name of the Lord, would that matter to you? Do you find power in the name of the Lord? I am sure I do not have the full understanding of the importance of the name of the Lord being the seal on a blessing over my life. I know when the Lord speaks I should listen. I have also learned that because the Lord speaks I should receive.
Very few people will speak forth a blessing, let alone, speak forth a blessing in the name of the Lord. There is something that seems sacred or untouchable. When we speak in the name of the Lord, there is authority. It isn't to be taken lightly. Just because there is authority, we shouldn't shy away from it either. There is a reason Jesus gives all the authority God gave Him to His disciples and then passed it onto each believer since then. He wants us to operate in the authority He released. He wants the kingdom of God to come in our lives and those we have around us.
Have you thought that if you give an encouragement or blessing but do not use the name of the Lord with it, that the words remain as words? Have you thought they do not carry the power and the authority God would have for them. Do we have to use the name of the Lord every time we give encouragement or speak a blessing? I am not sure; however, sometimes people do not receive it because they think it is something from us and not something directed from God through us. When we give encouragement of a blessing from God we are His conduit.
How long has it been since you have given a solid word of encouragement or a blessing which you knew God was speaking through you into another?
Father, I come before You to ask for my ears to be open to hearing Your voice. I want to be your conduit. I want to encourage people and give them hope in You. I want to bless others. Your Word says I am a blessing and I am to bless others. I want to position myself before You and hear You speak to me so I can release it to others. I pray for You to guide my words and may the words be precise, exactly what You would say if You were standing before them. I ask for You to come and speak to me so I can release your word to those who struggle to know Your voice. I want them to hear what You say about them. I want what is said to be confirmation so they recognize Your voice. I pray each one would seek You for your blessing and receive it in Jesus' name amen.
