Luke 19:1-5 (NKJV) Then Jesus entered and passed through Jericho. 2 Now behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus who was a chief tax collector, and he was rich. 3 And he sought to see who Jesus was, but could not because of the crowd, for he was of short stature. 4 So he ran ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see Him, for He was going to pass that way. 5 And when Jesus came to the place, He looked up and saw him, and said to him, “Zacchaeus, make haste and come down, for today I must stay at your house.”
There are times when the Lord wants to put a little fire under us. In my life, there have been too many times when God tells me something I think I have years to "pray about it". How many times have we missed the now time of God, because we thought it was a matter of contemplation or verification? When the Lord speaks to you and I, we need to listen. We also need to be prepared to go. We need to be prepared to make haste. You may never know why you needed to hurry, but the Lord knows.
Maybe He kept you from an accident.
Maybe He got you out of the way of quarrel between two others.
Maybe He moved you out, so you were far away from the mischief that was about to take place.
Maybe He wanted you to leave quickly, so that you didn't get into an argument or say things that you normally wouldn't have said; but once they are spoken you can't take them back.
Maybe He tried to tell you to get moving, so you were in the right place, to meet the right person, to listen to someone who needed a listening ear.
Maybe He tried to get you in position to meet the people who you were supposed to be in business with or linking together in ministry.
When the Lord says to make haste, I think it would be in your best interest, just like it is in mine, to move quickly to where He wants me to go. I can drag my feet with the best of them. I have to make sure I am attentive and alert when the Lord is speaking. I can allow His words to be as a fleeting thought, one that I never really acknowledged when I need to be clearly identifying His voice so I can respond exactly as He instructs.
Father, I ask to be ready for You to call my name. I pray I am in full anticipation of You speaking to me. I pray I will not be resistant to Your instructions. I ask that I be willing to move quickly to what you would have for me to do. I do not want to be one who waits after hearing You and remaining where I am when You have given me the instructions for what You want me to do. It isn't good enough for me to be in position if I am not willing to do as You direct. I pray for my ears to hear and to be ready to do as You say in Jesus' name amen.
