Matthew 5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
For they shall be filled.
"For they shall be filled." Wow! How many of us desire to be filled? Many people go through life with a sense of being empty. So, to be filled sounds almost unbelievable. Even Christians live daily in a deficit when this verse clearly tells us we can be filled. We accept all kinds of excuses as to why we do not need to walk in righteousness.
These excuses are a trap. They lead us to dangerous ground. Excuses are like quick sand. We might not even know we have walked onto it until we start to sink. We think we can get out of the excuse at any time. However, because we have bought into the excuse, rarely do we realize the excuse is sucking us into a pit of despair, hopelessness, and apathy.
Excuses are tools of the enemy. When we embrace the excuse then our thinking is altered. We may know the truth, but we do not see that the excuse harms us. Yes, God loves us the way that we are. Yes, He accepts and values everyone. So, why would we want live in righteousness? Since He loves the sinner as well as the saint, then I don't need to seek righteousness. I am loved just the way that I am. Why change? Why resist temptation? Why hunger and thirst, when I can be satisfied in my sin?
Sin may satisfy the flesh for a moment, but it leaves a monument of regret, broken relationships and dead dreams. It also doesn't honor the One who gave up His diety to live here on earth as a human, to be rejecting, betrayed, and lied about, whipped, caned and hung a cross enduring insurmountable pain. Then He face the devil in his own dominion and free the captivates.
He didn't set us free in order for us to remain our sin. He set us free so we could like life to the fullest, being filled. We can be filled. We can be satisfied, made whole, complete. This is what Jesus is offering when we pursue righteousness. There is a major life shift in they way that we think and respond when we are made whole. It begins with acknowledging Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord then proceeds to desiring to be made whole by HIs righteousness. It is something we cannot attain without pursuing Him.
Father, I come before You. You are my God and I will honor You. I desire to be made whole. I want sin out of my life. I ask for You to come and cleanse me of all unrighteousness. Reveal to me the excises I have accepted that have kept me my sin. I do not want ot be swallowed up in the quicksand of my sin. I want to acknowledge it, confess it and be freed from it in Jesus' name amen.
