1 Chronicles 16:7-35 (NKJV) On that day David first delivered this psalm into the hand of Asaph and his brethren, to thank the Lord:
8 Oh, give thanks to the Lord!
Call upon His name;
Make known His deeds among the peoples!
9 Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him;
Talk of all His wondrous works!
10 Glory in His holy name;
Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord!
11 Seek the Lord and His strength;
Seek His face evermore!
12 Remember His marvelous works which He has done,
His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth,
13 O seed of Israel His servant,
You children of Jacob, His chosen ones!
14 He is the Lord our God;
His judgments are in all the earth.
15 Remember His covenant forever,
The word which He commanded, for a thousand generations,
16 The covenant which He made with Abraham,
And His oath to Isaac,
17 And confirmed it to Jacob for a statute,
To Israel for an everlasting covenant,
18 Saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaan
As the allotment of your inheritance,”
19 When you were few in number,
Indeed very few, and strangers in it.
20 When they went from one nation to another,
And from one kingdom to another people,
21 He permitted no man to do them wrong;
Yes, He rebuked kings for their sakes,
22 Saying, “Do not touch My anointed ones,
And do My prophets no harm.”
23 Sing to the Lord, all the earth;
Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.
24 Declare His glory among the nations,
His wonders among all peoples.
25 For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised;
He is also to be feared above all gods.
26 For all the gods of the peoples are idols,
But the Lord made the heavens.
27 Honor and majesty are before Him;
Strength and gladness are in His place.
28 Give to the Lord, O families of the peoples,
Give to the Lord glory and strength.
29 Give to the Lord the glory due His name;
Bring an offering, and come before Him.
Oh, worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness!
30 Tremble before Him, all the earth.
The world also is firmly established,
It shall not be moved.
31 Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad;
And let them say among the nations, “The Lord reigns.”
32 Let the sea roar, and all its fullness;
Let the field rejoice, and all that is in it.
33 Then the trees of the woods shall rejoice before the Lord,
For He is coming to judge the earth.
34 Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!
For His mercy endures forever.
35 And say, “Save us, O God of our salvation;
Gather us together, and deliver us from the Gentiles,
To give thanks to Your holy name,
To triumph in Your praise.”
What would this verse mean for us today, in this time and where we are right now. What does it mean for us to pray, "Deliver us from the Gentiles." What were the Gentiles in David's day and time. They not only were the ones who were not Israelites, but they were the ones who lived their lives in opposition to God. They were their own god. They created their own gods who couldn't think, hear, see or act on their behalf. Their gods were made of stone, wood and clay. They made up a new god for each belief they made up. They made up the gods to get others to buy into their belief. They created gods for what they believed instead of believing in the God who created them.
They were not disqualified from being God's people because of their ethnicity. It was because they had made their own gods, instead of putting their faith in the Lord. Those who put their faith in God, like Rahab and Ruth, who were born Gentiles; but were welcomed into God's family even though they were not of Israelite decent. Why were they welcomed into God's family? Because they rejected the gods of the Gentiles and recognized and professed God as the one true God. They came out from their people and wanted to be a part of God's people, not just to be in the camp of the Israelites, like so many others. They wanted to worship God. Even the days when Jesus walked the earth, the Centruion believed and honored Jesus as God. Then Cornelius is visited by an angel and he sends for Peter as the angel directs. He and his household, everyone he could get to come would hear what Peter had to say about Jesus Christ, the Messiah. Everyone who came had the opportunity to leave behind their gods, and through faith in Jesus Christ, be grafted into God's family. Gentiles were everyone who was and is opposed to God. It has nothing to do with ethnicity or status. It had to do with their belief in gods that were man-made, rather than the God who made man.
What do we see happening today. The few are making up gods and building a case for them based on false beliefs, because they have rejected God. Now people not only make gods to stand for their belief from wood, clay, and stone, but they made up t-shirts and trinkets, songs and movies, clothing and signals supporting with their gods. To support their belief they have designed gods that require them to change who they are even their gender, rather than turn to the God who has accepted who they are and restores them to who they were created to be. We need to pray as David encouraged, "God, deliver us from the Gentiles!" We need to be praying as David exhorted the people, "God, Let them say among the nations, 'The Lord Reigns!'" It is time for the Gentiles to come away from their man-made gods and receive understanding, belief and alignment in the God who made man.
Father, I ask for Holy Spirit to brood over the Gentiles. I pray for understanding of their man-made beliefs and to put their trust in You. I pray they would break alignment with their idols, their gods of clay, wood, stone. I pray they would remove from their lives those things supporting gods that can't listen, see or move on their behalf, the gods they wear on their t-shirts and display as banners, their songs and movies would be forgotten and removed from playlists. I pray they would get rid of their gods being displayed upon their clothing and stop identifying with the signals supporting their god built upon man. I ask for each one to seek You and find You. I pray their mind would be opened to understanding Your love and receiving it. I pray they would testify of Your faithfulness to retrieve them from their blindness. I pray for God to be made known in every area of their life. I pray they would have influence with their former relationships in order to bring them into Your family. I ask for Your will to be done, that none should perish, but for everyone to come into faith in the saving grace of the perfect sacrifice of Jesus Christ, in Jesus' name amen.
