Despair Holds No Hope

Ruth 4:14-15 (NKJV) Then the women said to Naomi, “Blessed be the Lord, who has not left you this day without a close relative; and may his name be famous in Israel! 15 And may he be to you a restorer of life and a nourisher of your old age; for your daughter-in-law, who loves you, who is better to you than seven sons, has borne him.”

I wonder if Naomi was so crushed by hopelessness, she dared not believe in the blessing. She was in so much pain from losing her husband, her two sons and was without any grandchildren; it devastated her. When she returned from Moab she told the women at the well to call her Mara. She wanted to be call bitter. She told everyone God cursed her. She seemed completely unresponsive when Ruth went to glean in the fields. She did not act on her behalf to set her up in a field of a good owner or close relative. God sent Ruth to the right field.

Naomi was in a place of despair. She seemed to be without hope. After the baby boy is born the women try to reach out to her again. They bless her. They are stocking the embers of her spirit. They are trying to relight the fire of the Lord within her. God had not left her. He had redeemed her. He had given her a son. The women specifically spoke to Naomi. They blessed her and reminded her of what God has done. They proceeded to bless the baby boy and stir of hope in what God was doing.

Have you had a similar situation in your life? Have people pointed out what God has done in your life and then begin to speak to you, bless you and the possibility of what is to come? Do you allow their blessing to revive hope within you? Or do you continue to remain in your despair?

Father, I must learn how to receive a blessing. I do not want to remain in despair. I want to acknowledge what You have done in my life. I want to embrace hope. I want to lay hold of the blessing. I want to see the blessing crush despair. I ask for my ears to hear the blessing. I ask for my eyes to see the reality of the blessing. I ask for hope to be ignited in Jesus' name amen.
