Desperate

Warriors Arise: April 6, 2021

Daniel 6:18-20 (NKJV) Now the king went to his palace and spent the night fasting; and no musicians were brought before him. Also his sleep went from him. 19 Then the king arose very early in the morning and went in haste to the den of lions. 20 And when he came to the den, he cried out with a lamenting voice to Daniel. The king spoke, saying to Daniel, “Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to deliver you from the lions?”

I am so amazed when I read what Darius asks. His voice, his tone was lamenting but is not necessarily mourning in defeat. Do you find it odd that he didn't just look into the den but actually called out to Daniel. He used Daniel's name. He spoke to Daniel. He didn't know if Daniel was alive. He didn't know if there was anything other than Daniel's clothes remaining. Yes, the king spoke, saying to Daniel...

I recognize his voice was shaking. Surely, we can all can identify when the things, circumstances and demons of this world challenge our hope to believe in the miraculous of our God. Even though his voice held a lamenting tone, his feet carried him with haste very early in the morning. If Daniel was alive then the king had the authority to get him out of the lions den. There was no reason for Daniel to remain in the lion's den any longer than necessary. If the lions weren't going to eat him then there was not need for him to remain in their den.

Even though Darius' voice betrayed him, his actions spoke so loud I bet the governors and satraps who had put Daniel in this predicament heard every step the king made toward the lion's den. I bet they were awoken from their sleep when the king spoke. The king's faith shown in such volumes is astounding. Do you have faith like Darius? We do not know if believes in God nor if he had sought Daniel's before. Scripture doesn't even say that he sought God that night. Yes he fasted but it doesn't say to who, to which god. Yes, he would not allow himself to be soothed by musicians. He didn't want to be distracted. Yes, he would not yield to sleep. He remained faithful through the night. Jesus' own disciple couldn't pray with Him for an hour; but Darius, he was devoted to Daniel.

When the king spoke, he didn't just call out with a shout or a cry, he spoke, saying to Daniel. Do you realize the amount of faith he had? If it wasn't faith, it was desperation. Sometimes we can be so desperate for the situation to change that we position ourselves before God. You know the saying, "Desperate times call for desperate measures." Sometimes it is the desperate situation that motivates us to take desperate measure. We finally come to the end of ourselves, what we can do, who we know, the resources we can gather and have to surrender to the only one who can bring about the change.

What is it that you need to allow to motivate you to seek God's intervention? Your voice may give you away but what are your words saying? Do you believe God will hear your petition and answer your request?

Father, You are good. There have been times I was not sure if You were hearing my prayers. Just because things seem silent the night doesn't mean You weren't doing anything. While Darius is fasting, You are protecting Daniel. I ask for You to strengthen me to believe in the miracle I need You to do in my life, with my family, in our health, in our finances, and in my job. I do not want to be complacent in my faith, accepting what is before me when you have so much more ahead in my life. I pray for Your will to be done in my life. I want to be positioned to release Your power into my life and the lives of those around me. I ask for Your glory to come, Your grace to abound, and Your love that never fails to be evident in my life. I want to put off apathy and complacency. I will pick up a desecration to see Your love demonstrated in my life. You are my God and I will faithfully petition You in Jesus' name amen.
