Did You Check?

Warriors Arise: April 29, 2023

Did anyone check it out? I focused on a verse from Psalm 113 in yesterday's bog. Did you go and read the rest of the verse is Psalm 113?

Psalms 113 (NKJV)

1 Praise the Lord!

Praise, O servants of the Lord,

Praise the name of the Lord!

2 Blessed be the name of the Lord

From this time forth and forevermore!

3 From the rising of the sun to its going down

The Lord's name is to be praised.

4 The Lord is high above all nations,

His glory above the heavens.

5 Who is like the Lord our God,

Who dwells on high,

6 Who humbles Himself to behold

The things that are in the heavens and in the earth?

7 He raises the poor out of the dust,

And lifts the needy out of the ash heap,

8 That He may seat him with princes—

With the princes of His people.

9 He grants the barren woman a home,

Like a joyful mother of children.

Praise the Lord!

If you went and read Psalm 113, what stuck out to you? The following phrase is what caught my attention, "Who is like the Lord our God". It made me stop and think. Scripture should grab our attention, because it is the words God wanted us to know, receive, and apply to our lives. I gave up reading my Bible years ago. The Bible is not words on a page. They are the breath of God, spoken to His people for each one of us to apply in our day, in our time, in our generation.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NKJV) All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Let me share a little bit about 2 Timothy 3:16&17. It is a powerful, life changing passage. The first time it jumped out at me, the translation I was reading had said, "All Scripture is given by the breath of God." I remember God showing me a picture of me reading the Bible and the words coming off of the page on His breath. Taking it into my being, the very breath of God would be transformational. This is why it is profitable. Receiving the breath of God from the words on the page would give me sound doctrine. It would be the foundation upon which my faith is made strong. It solidifies the Rock upon which I stand. Then to receive the breath of God for reproof, in knowing what pleases the Lord my God and what does not bring Him honor. He will let me know through His Word. When I read the Word of God and receive His breath on every word, I know He is speaking directly to me. It isn't for me to say, "That is not my issue. That verse must be for someone else." No. God's Word will bring correction to my life. It is not that He wants me to be down on myself, He wants me to know what pleases Him and the best way to represent Him to others. To truly love me, He has to correct me. He doesn't want me to be a spoiled, selfish brat expecting to get my way everytime or to get everything I ask for. There are times I do not, can not know what is best for me. But God, knows exactly what is best for me. Correction is sweet to the humble because they have a deep knowing that God would never withhold something that would be a benefit. They know God is working things out in their favor. They know how they receive God's correction will either position them for the best of God's plan or their rejection of God's correction will position them for missing God's plan. God breathed upon the words in the Bible and I believe He continues to breathe life into us when we make the Word a part of who we are through the instructions of righteousness. God's desire through our receiving and applying the instruction from His Word will renew us in His righteousness.

Do you know why we are to breathe in the Word of God? God exhaled and the Word was written. We breathe in and receive the Word. God wants us to be complete. We are complete as we take in and apply God's Word to our lives each day. We are to be thoroughly equipped for every good work. You and I are to be doing every good work. We are equipped to do every good work when we inhale the Word of God, allow it to transform us and make us new, the righteousness of Christ emanates from us.

A little sidetracked from where we started but I believe the interruption was God. So important to inhale God's word, allow it to breathe into us and give every cell in our body the oxygen it needs to prosper. God is so good to us. He breathes His Word into us. Stop holding your breath when you read the Bible. Inhale.

Father, I today as I read You word I breathe in deeply. I will inhale Your words and receive them. I will know the Word and be strengthen by it. There are times when I will need reproof and corrected. I will receive that from You. When I listen I can make the changes before I step off Your path or hurt someone else. My desire is to be instructed in righteousness so that I represent You well. I will inhale Your breath as I read Your Word and it will give life to every cell in my body, cleanse my mind, restore my soul, and strengthen my spirit in Jesus' name amen.
