Do Not Touch!

Warriors Arise: March 28, 2023

1 Chronicles 16:7-22 (NKJV) On that day David first delivered this psalm into the hand of Asaph and his brethren, to thank the Lord:

8 Oh, give thanks to the Lord!

Call upon His name;

Make known His deeds among the peoples!

9 Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him;

Talk of all His wondrous works!

10 Glory in His holy name;

Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord!

11 Seek the Lord and His strength;

Seek His face evermore!

12 Remember His marvelous works which He has done,

His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth,

13 O seed of Israel His servant,

You children of Jacob, His chosen ones!

14 He is the Lord our God;

His judgments are in all the earth.

15 Remember His covenant forever,

The word which He commanded, for a thousand generations,

16 The covenant which He made with Abraham,

And His oath to Isaac,

17 And confirmed it to Jacob for a statute,

To Israel for an everlasting covenant,

18 Saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaan

As the allotment of your inheritance,”

19 When you were few in number,

Indeed very few, and strangers in it.

20 When they went from one nation to another,

And from one kingdom to another people,

21 He permitted no man to do them wrong;

Yes, He rebuked kings for their sakes,

22 Saying, “Do not touch My anointed ones,

And do My prophets no harm.”

This brings a something into perspective. David honored Saul as one of the anointed ones. The reference is to all of the children of Israel; however, David would not harm Saul. Even though he didn't do anything to Saul. He honored Saul as his king and did all he commanded him to do. David became successful in the eyes of the people and it made Saul jealous. He set David up to be killed by the Philistines a couple of times. He threw spears at David, while he played his harp to silence the distressing spirit that was upon Saul. Saul pursued David several times. He hunted him down. Even when David had the chance, he did not kill Saul. David continued to teach his men to honor the anointed one, Saul, as king and all of God's people.

When David and 400 of his men continued after the Amalekites, 200 remained behind the brook. They were too tired to go on. The 400 didn't want to share the spoils with the ones who remained behind. David would have none of that. He said they would share with the men who had remained behind. David even sent 12 wagon loads of the spoils out to their brethren, one to all twelve tribes of Israel. Even though the people treated David poorly, less than favorable, he didn't allow himself to be lowered to their standard. He raised the bar and honored his brethren, the anointed ones. David would not touch Saul. He could. He had the opportunity. But He didn't.

It is difficult to honor the bully. It is so hard to remain silent when others are jealous. Every thing within us wants to either get out quietly or withhold the Father's blessing. We do not want to bless someone who has been mean to us. But Jesus didn't withhold His Father's blessing from us. We have to tap into the incredible power of the love Jesus operated in. David was able to trust God to work all things out according to His plan. In the midst of David being chased by Saul, he learned to give honor not because Saul deserved it, he gave honor because David is a man of honor. Honor can't be given if we do not operate in honor. When someone gives an award and tries to honor the recipient, it is easy to see when they do not have honor within them. When you have someone who knows how to honor giving an award, the entire room feels the honor being given. Then entire room wishes they were the ones being talked about, the recipient of the award, but more importantly the recipient of the words being spoken. We need to cultivate an atmosphere of honor in our lives and give it away at every opportunity.

Father, honor is withheld without cause. David had a cause to withhold honor toward Saul but he didn't. I ask to be a person of honor. I want to be able to give it because of the person doing harm to the situation, person or people group. I ask for You to come and open my eyes to see who I can honor. I will position myself before the Holy Spirit and open my eyes to recognize those needing to be honored. I will bless the Lord and also His people in Jesus' name amen.
