Do You See what I See?

Warriors Arise: September 3, 2023

Matthew 4:16-17 (NKJV)The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light,

And upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death

Light has dawned.”

The Savior of the world has come. He is speaking to people who are in darkness, They had the Old Testament, the priests, and their religion had turned to traditions. They were not completely in the dark. Jesus is now among them. He is the light they needed. Through the Old Testament, they knew to look for Him. They knew this day would come, but they had to receive Him as the light.

John 8:12 (NKJV) Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

Many remained in darkness because they allowed Jesus to pass by them without allowing Jesus to light the fire within them. As much as Jesus would have been overjoyed to light the fire of Salvation and eternal life to all He came across, they had to make a choice. They had to offer their wick to Him to light.

He is the eternal light of the world. His flame will never go out. We have to yield our wick to the flame and be lit on fire from within. It is a burning passion to know God, be loved by God, receive from God, be empowered by God, listen to God and follow God. If your light grows dim all you have to do is stoke the fire, allow the Holy Spirit to breathe upon you and your fire will ignite again.

A week ago, we had a bonfire. It was close to burning out, but there were branches that stopped burning because they were too far out of the fire. I went around the edge and threw them into the middle of the small fire that remained. They lit up. They reignited and finished burning. I was stunned watching how the fire burns within the wood before the outside burns.

This is exactly how God works within us. When we are lit with the fire of Christ, the inside of us is on fire with passion and purpose to fulfill what God has called us to do. We are to allow ourselves to be seen. No one hides a light under a basket. We are to let others see Christ burn within us. His love, compassion, power, and wisdom are to be on display within us.

Ash can never return to be the wood it came from. God says through Isaiah, He will make beauty from ashes (Is. 61:3). The Light of the world burns for all to see within you and I. Do you see what I see?

  • Do you see His faithfulness, love, and compassion?

  • Do you see His power within you to overcome?

  • Do you see His desire to light the purpose within you and keep you burning so others will see Christ in you?

Father, there is darkness all around. I ask to be the wood that is burning from within. I ask for boldness. I want people to see Christ in me. I want to have courage to share His compassion, love, power, and wisdom. I want to encourage others to be lit by Christ and shine bright for all to see what He can do in them. I pray I will not burn out before I burn completely within. Let my life be lit by You in Jesus' name amen.
