Don't Miss It

Warriors Arise: April 29, 2024

Matthew 9:2 & 3 Then behold, they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you.”

And at once some of the scribes said within themselves, “This Man blasphemes!”

Continuing with the last two days, I needed to add verse three:

Meditating on this has led me to focus on the power of forgiveness. Why would Jesus says, "Son, be of good cheer; your sins are corvine you."? Why would He just say, "Rise and walk." It would have been fewer words. It would still restore his physical ability. Why did Jesus say, "Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you."?

I have three thoughts on this:

First, the man had sinned terribly and everyone knew of his sin. They cursed him and condemned him because of his sinful behavior.

Second, the man sinned terribly and even though others could forgiven him, he could not forgive himself.

Thirdly, He knew the scribes were watching, therefore, it could have been a test of their heart. They accepted His healing and deliverances, lepers were completely restored and even the dead had been raised. This was different and things were about to break loose. This time He didn't heal just by a word or a touch, but through forgiveness of sin. They needed to remember all of God's Word, especially the words from the prophets.

Up to this point, forgiveness of sin could only be done through a priest and with a blood sacrifice. Jesus had not yet shed any blood. Which I do not think that matters because He was operating as a priest, through His Levitical heritage. The scribes did not recognize Jesus as a priest; therefore, what He said was unlawful.

They were still under the law; therefore, they could only judge the matter from their interpretation of God's Laws. With Jesus being here, on earth, the old law was voided. He represented the new covenant. If they could have remembered actual verses and not just the law. They, too, could have been as the wisemen of the East and known Jesus, the Messiah had come over thirty years earlier. They could have known He was fulfilling Old Testament prophesies. They could have known if they were looking for the Savior instead of looking to be judge over the law.

My Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. God, I come before You. I want to completely and wholeheartedly follow Your Word. I want to be prepared to see You and receive the new thing You are doing. I do not want to stand and watch You in action then judge what You are doing or how You are doing it. I want to be a part of what You are doing, receive it, and testify of it. I want to remember what Your Word says and the prophecies. I want to be looking with expectation for You to do what Your Word says you will do. I want to release what You are wanting got do on the earth and in the lives of people today in Jesus' Name, amen.
