Warriors Arise: March 30, 2022
Mark 10:46-52 (NKJV) Now they came to Jericho. As He went out of Jericho with His disciples and a great multitude, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the road begging. 47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” 48 Then many warned him to be quiet; but he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” 49 So Jesus stood still and commanded him to be called. Then they called the blind man, saying to him, “Be of good cheer. Rise, He is calling you.” 50 And throwing aside his garment, he rose and came to Jesus. 51 So Jesus answered and said to him, “What do you want Me to do for you?”
The blind man said to Him, “Rabboni, that I may receive my sight.” 52 Then Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus on the road.
Why did Jesus ask what the blind man wanted? Didn't Jesus know what the man wanted? The blind man was calling to him. He wanted to be heard; he wanted to be seen. He wanted Jesus to help him. All that the blind man had to go through in order to have a moment with Jesus. Again, the people around the blindman told him firmly to be quiet.
This blind man had to get to Jesus all by himself. Many times we can sit on the side and know God has all the power to heal us, provide the resources, and open the doors to the dreams He has put inside of us, but we won't call out to God. We don't even care that He is passing. We figure it is our turn to receive the miracle, the resources, the open door then Jesus would just come over the do it. How many times do we sit on our good-for-nothing waiting for God to intervene, to do His thing in our life when we should be recognizing that the King of kings is passing?
This bling man comes before Jesus and hears something he probably doesn't expect. Take a moment to inspect your own heart. What if Jesus had called you over to stand before Him and asks you, "What do you want Me to do for you?" What would your response be? We think we would have our answer or question ready but would we?
Would you be appalled?
Would you stammer?
Would you be shocked that He is making you ask?
Do you think He is wanting you to grovel?
Do you think He is making fun of you? Everyone knows what you need. Why does He ask?
You may not agree with me and I am ok with that. Most of the time, I do not believe we are individually prepared for when Jesus passes. I believe His presence comes more than we know.
The times that you recognize the presence of God, do you call out to Him? Are you moaning, complaining, grumbling, expecting to be rejected? Do you think He only had enough for one person and you aren't that one?
First we have to recognize the presence of God. Then we have to call out to Him. What did the blind man call out? "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" Seems peculiar. So what was the blind man saying? Even though this blind man had probably NEVER read with his eyes Scripture, he knew the Messiah would come through the line of David. The blind man had a knowing of who Jesus was. Do you?
Do you know who Jesus is? So, who is Jesus? Say it out loud. List everything you know Jesus to be.
Do you know why He came? So, what did Jesus come to do? Say it out loud. List everything you know Jesus came to do.
Do you know what He gave you? So, what did Jesus give you? Say it out loud. List everything you know Jesus gave you.
Now, you are ready to ask. You can ask now because as God's child, He is always listening. However, don't forget to ask when you know you are in His presence, when He has called you to step forward.
Father, I am so blessed to know You hear me when I pray. My heart fills with joy knowing You are available every time I call out to You. I want to be overflowing with my praise for who You are, why You have come, and what You have given me. Remind me of Your goodness, faithfulness and lovingkindness that is everlasting. I will lift praises to Your name. I ask know when Your presence is coming. I ask to know when You are near. I pray I have courage and boldness to shout out to You. I pray I would be prepared, with a heart of expectancy, to believe that You want to do what I want in my heart. I pray I would be bold enough to ask in Jesus' name amen.
