1 Chronicles 16:7-11 (NKJV) 7 On that day David first delivered this psalm into the hand of Asaph and his brethren, to thank the Lord:
8 Oh, give thanks to the Lord!
Call upon His name;
Make known His deeds among the peoples!
9 Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him;
Talk of all His wondrous works!
10 Glory in His holy name;
Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord!
11 Seek the Lord and His strength;
Seek His face evermore!
How many times does God have it recorded in His Word to seek Him, to see the Lord? You would think this would be automatic for anyone who has been a Christian. It seems like we want people to receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior, but we don't want to impress upon people the obvious, seek the Lord. Seeking the Lord is an active part of relationship. It is where we learn about the love of God and how He demonstrates it in our lives and those around us, the strength of His might and how it applies to our everyday life, the authority of Jesus Christ and how to administer it, the wisdom of the Holy Spirit and how to be guided by Him. Honestly, the list of what God, Jesus Christ and Holy Spirit offer is more than we want to get into today, because it would look very similar to the Bible. The Bible is written so we have a way to relate to and be in relationship to God, Jesus Christ and Holy Spirit, pursuing them to be completely involved in our lives. When we do not seek God, we want to live our lives in our understanding. When we live in our own understanding, we leave out what we don't know. We don't know, what we don't know. The only way to tap into what we don't know is either though experience and the school of hard knocks or by way of the Father, Jesus Christ and Holy Spirit. They don't want us to go through the school of hard knocks. There are some things that have to be taught on a field trip; however, there are so many things, so much more we can learn in the classroom. This means we can learn in the classroom, because we are in relationship with God, Jesus Christ and Holy Spirit, because they are our teachers. If there is something you want to know or need to know all you and I have to do is ask the Father.
Luke 11:9-10 (NKJV) “So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.
God desires to be in relationship with us because He doesn't want us to go through life the hard way, having to learn everything through the school of hard knocks.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV) Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.
Then David goes on to tell the people to seek the Lord for His strength. We are not to live our lives in our own strength. Yes, we have to use the strength we have been given; however, we are to tap into the strength the Father gives. He gives us the strength to take a stand against he enemy and the lies He speaks. Everyday we are to rise in the strength of the Lord and resist the devil. Everyday we are resist apathy and procrastination. Procrastination leading to missing the timing of the Lord. His timing sets things in motion for abundant blessing. Apathy leads to bondage in our hearts and minds which ultimately costs our passion to pursue the things God has for us. We are to seek the Lord for His strength. When I am weak, He is strong. If I do not purse the Lord for His strength, I will face things in life that I cannot stand against because that particular struggle is not earthly but of the spiritual realm. I can never win against the enemy; however, in Christ, submitted to God, empowered by Holy Spirit, I have strength to take a stand and walk in the fullness of who God has called me to be and what He has called me to do so I can resist the devil and step into victory in Jesus Christ.
David is so passionate to exhort the people to "His face forevermore!" He ends this with an exclamation. He has seen the importance of God's presence in His own life. We can't even count how many times David could have been killed but God protected, guided, and equipped him. It would appear David is a firm believer that since God did it for him, He will do it for each one of them. David represents a faithful heart to follow after God, pursuing His righteousness, His Word, His involvement in his life, and His promises becoming reality. It would appear David wants everyone to know God will meet with them, if they will seek His face and never stop.
Forevermore is a long time. Later in David's life we see he took a break from the call of God on his life. That was not good. It nearly cost him everything. Pursing God, seeking His face is an everyday relationship. We do not take a break. In the time we take a break from relating with God, we open the door for the enemy who is telling us, "You have done enough. You can take a rest. Let someone else do the work. You have trained them. They can do this without you." The enemy is all about getting us to give up what God has called us to do and who God has called us to be. We are not to give ground, we are to pursue God and His righteousness forevermore.
Father, today, I position myself before You. I do not want it to be just for today. I am positioning my heart to meet with You everyday. I want to commune with You. I want to know You. I want to live my life with You, not just for You. My desire it to hear Your voice and commune with You. My desire is to see You and join where You are and what You are doing. My desire is to seek Your face everyday, forevermore. I pray for tenacity, pursuit and the joy of the Lord to be my strength everyday, forevermore, in Jesus' name amen.
