Everyone Received

Warriors Arise: March 11, 2023

1 Chronicles 16:3 (NKJV) Then he distributed to everyone of Israel, both man and woman, to everyone a loaf of bread, a piece of meat, and a cake of raisins.

I am so grateful when someone plans ahead for when I am going to need nourishment. That is the nice way of saying, when I am going to be starving or grumpy. David provided food for the people. He gave everyone a loaf of bread, meat and a cake of raisin. It reminds me of what Abigail packed up to take to David and his 400 men when they were coming to annihilate Nabal and his household for being so arrogant and rude.

1 Samuel 25:18-20 (NKJV) Then Abigail made haste and took two hundred loaves of bread, two skins of wine, five sheep already dressed, five seahs of roasted grain, one hundred clusters of raisins, and two hundred cakes of figs, and loaded them on donkeys. 19 And she said to her servants, “Go on before me; see, I am coming after you.” But she did not tell her husband Nabal. 20 So it was, as she rode on the donkey, that she went down under cover of the hill; and there were David and his men, coming down toward her, and she met them.

I am wondering if Abigail helped David with the preparations of feeding all the people of Israel who had joined in the celebration that day? She had done this kind of thing before. When he first met her, she had an abundance of food and drink from her household. He did not miss anything from his table when she took food and drink to David and his men, when she went to intervene on behalf of her first husband, Nabal. She didn't start cooking more when the servant came and told her of Nabal's arrogance toward David and his men, she started packing it up. She had so much extra she knew her husband wouldn't miss a piece of the provisions.

When we think back about that day when Abigail packed up so much food and drink for David and his men it makes you wonder. Isn't it peculiar for Abigail to have so much extra that she could take enough to feed David and his 400 men? She had donkeys loaded with food, grains, figs and drink. This might have been the food she intended for their men servants and made servants. Even though they might have been disappointed in not receiving from the celebration it was to save their lives. Abigail was definitely qualified to take on making sure everyone who came to celebrate that day would have food. She seems to be experienced in planning the food needed during celebrations. Maybe not, but I wouldn't be surprised. She obviously knew how to host a party and make sure everyone had plenty.

• Everyone who came received.

• They didn't run out.

• There was more than enough.

Father, what an example of Your abundance. When we come to You there will always be enough. You never run out. You always have more than enough. Every time Jesus multiplied the food they had to pick up the leftovers. I pray for myself and other Christians to believe when we come to You there is more than enough. I pray we would start believing there will be enough for us when we get to the front of the line. I pray we will receive what You put into our hands. I pray we will know when You desire to celebrate with us. I pray we would receive from You and join in the celebration. You are worthy to be praise and I will go the distance and worship You with all my heart, with all my soul, with all my mind and with all my strength in Jesus' name amen.
