Warriors Arise: January 13, 2022
Isaiah 43:19 (NKJV)
Behold, I will do a new thing,
Now it shall spring forth;
Shall you not know it?
I will even make a road in the wilderness
And rivers in the desert.
What does it mean when someone says, "They can't see the forest for the trees?" When I think of verse 19, I will even make a road in the wilderness, I see a wilderness of trees going on and on, over hill after hill to the mountains high and the valleys low. Everywhere I look there are trees so thick you have to slide between saplings and mature trees. Everywhere you step is uneven because of the fallen trees, growing roots, and ground covered with foliage. I guess I see the worst case because if the wilderness was clear, smoothly rippling from one hill to the next you wouldn't need a road. It wouldn't be that big of a deal.
There are times we can feel like we are about to be swallowed by the events in our lives- the trees, saplings and foliage. There is nowhere to step without stumbling or sprawling into the muck. As careful as we may be to try and navigate through the wilderness, it is inevitable that we need a miracle. We need a road in the wilderness to appear, like, yesterday.
We may be tired of the fears that are haunting like the looming trees over top. These lies cast a shadows and we can't see the sunlight. Then the troubles of our past are hiding in the underbrush and like roots above ground they seem to catch our toe and cause a face plant into the very muck we were trying to be rid of. Fears are a powerful tool of the enemy. Fear snatches at us time and time again like thorns on briars. The thought pricks us just enough to know it is still there and has some control over what we do and where we go. If we could only embrace what is inside of us.
1 John 4:17-19 (NKJV) Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. 19 We love Him because He first loved us.
You and I have been given access to a perfect love. Even though we both have access to God's love, His perfect love that casts out fear, we must receive it to have the power to kick fear when it rears its ugly head. Just because we know God's love has the power to cast out fear, doesn't mean we are operating in the power of His astounding love. We have to activate His love, we have to receive it, knowing our value in Christ and then embrace it. Once we embrace it, allowing it to saturate every part of our being and every thought that has risen up against what God has said about us, then we have to release it. We have to love like God loves. We love God and love others as we love ourselves. Then we will see the road God had made in the wilderness. A wilderness without a road is daunting. A wilderness with a road is filled with pleasure and hope. We know, there is an end, this is for our enjoyment not our prison.
Father, I look to You. I desire to be rid of this fear that has paralyzed me. It keeps me from knowing You. It prevents me from receiving Your love. It lies to me about who You say I am. It tells me I am not worth Your love. But fear is a liar and I will not bow my head to it any longer. I will lift my eyes up and look to You. I will hear You speak over me. I will receive Your love. I will believe Your love for me. I will embrace Your love until it saturates every thought that is set up against what You have said. I will be cleansed by the power of Your love. I will be free of fear and live in the fullness of Your amazing love. I will see the road and enjoy the view. I know You make a way for me. I will not be confused about the direction You have for me. I will enjoy the view and walk the road before me in Jesus' name amen.
