Warriors Arise: May 24, 2023
Matthew 2:9 (NKJV) When they heard the king, they departed; and behold, the star which they had seen in the East went before them, till it came and stood over where the young Child was.
I haven't given this much thought before, but it is almost like there was an arrow with flashing lights pointing at Jesus. Bethlehem was not a small, blink and you'll miss it, village. It was a bustling town, a small city in their time. Especially after Herod had made everyone return to their town of their origin, two years prior, Bethlehem would have expanded as they waited until the census was taken. Herod's men had to travel from town to town, registering EVERYONE. It would have been a bookkeeping nightmare! Bethlehem would have been a town that ballooned overnight, because of the census. People were building homes, because they didn't know when they would counted and then all of the fact-checking to prove your father's lineage was from that town. The census didn't happen overnight. Especially, since Herod was on the lookout for this king of the Jews. He wasn't looking for a baby until the wisemen showed up. He had been looking for a man.
The wisemen arrived and the star was still leading them. I wonder what this looked like. A star doesn't just have a single ray, it glows all around it. How did this star stand over where the young Child was? My mind has to soak that in. How did the star stand over where the young Child was? Was He out playing? Was He walking past them holding Mary's hand or with Joseph out in his carpenter workshop? Was He playing with other little ones while Mary was doing laundry or kneading dough for bread?
This star that had lead them now stood over a Child, right where the Child was. Jesus could have been nearly two years old. God is doing the miraculous. How is it the wiseman could see this star over Jesus, but others didn't?
In most cases, I think we would agree, we can't see what we aren't looking for. How many times have you told someone, "If it had been a snake it would have bitten you." Whether we had too much going through our mind or were worked up, because we couldn't find it when we really needed it; it is obvious, we didn't see what we should have seen that was right in front of our face.
The wisemen were looking. They could see exactly which Child the star was over. They knew, this Child was sent from God, as the king of the Jews.
Father, I want eyes to see You. I want to be in pursuit of You. I want to be able to read the signs of the time but more importantly I want to know when You are here. I know Holy Spirit is with me always. I know Jesus is interceding for me. I know You are always available when I engage in relationship with You. However, instead of me coming to You for what I am doing and the concerns or praises I want to share, I want to see where You are and what You are involved in. I want to be like Jesus where He did only what He saw His Father doing. I want to see You at work, not to sit back and watch; but I want to join You and be a part of what You are doing. I pray You would open my eyes and I would pursue You. There doesn't have to be a flashing light, but I want to be about what You are doing. I ask for You to open my eyes to see You, what You are doing and to know what how I am to be a part of it in Jesus name amen.
