Cross Over part 22

Joshua 4:21-24 (NKJV) ...Then he spoke to the children of Israel, saying: “When your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, ‘What are these stones?’ 22 then you shall let your children know, saying, ‘Israel crossed over this Jordan on dry land’; 23 for the Lord your God dried up the waters of the Jordan before you until you had crossed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red Sea, which He dried up before us until we had crossed over, 24 that all the peoples of the earth may know the hand of the Lord, that it is mighty, that you may fear the Lord your God forever.”

God had been doing the miraculous for His people, the children of Israel, for 40 years. Why did He do this particular miracle?

The children of Israel had known God to do the miraculous. They saw God deliver them from a 430 year bondage to Egypt. When Moses was sent to be the spokesperson for God, "Let My people go." Pharaoh hardened his heart against God. What didn't happen had to happen because Pharaoh would not yield to God. Therefore, God was put in a position to demonstrate His power. Pharaoh was no match for God.

Moses takes his staff and throws it on the ground and it turns into a snake (Exodus 4)

Moses puts his hand in his jacket bosom, when he pulls it out it is leprous, like snow. When he puts it back in and pulls it out it is healed. (Exodus 4)

Water in the Nile River became blood. (Exodus 7:20)

A plague of Frogs (Exodus 8:6)

A plague of Lice (Exodus 8:17)

A plague of Flies (Exodus 8:24)

Livestock diseased (Exodus9:6)

A plague of Boils (Exodus 9:10)

Hail (Exodus 9:23)

A plague of Locusts (Exodus 10:13)

Darkness (Exodus 10:22)

Death of firstborn (Exodus 12:29)

What did these miracles demonstrate to Pharaoh?

There are times when there are authorities in our lives who respond to God like Pharaoh. They think they do not have to honor the Word of God. They think they get a decision when God makes a request. They do not realize when God makes a request the only proper response is, "Yes, You can have what you have asked right now." When God intervenes for His people is it not a matter of choice unless you would like Him to demonstrate His power. He will free His people. He will not allow them to remain in bondage nor return to bondage. Pharaoh was never going to get God's people again. But Pharaoh's response determined what He would end up with when it is all said and done.

What did these miracles demonstrate to the children of Israel?

There are times when we are the ones being rescued by God yet we have doubt. We doubt God will intervene to free us from bondage or we doubt if God can. The authority has been in place so long, the rules have been in place so long, the lies have been believed for so long we do not think God can straighten out the lies, apply the rules to bring justice or as the authority to be removed people from their positions. God wants justice. He removes authorities who do not honor Him. He reveals the lies and makes plain the truth. He gives wisdom to the ruling powers so they are just. God can and will because He wants what is best for His people. He does not want us in bondage to the lies of injustice. Every lie produces an injustice to someone. God needs His people to remember He is God and He is second to none. He will intervene for justice because He is just in all His ways.

What did these miracles demonstrate to Moses?

Moses learned God would have His way because God said the time is now. When God says it is now, He will make a way for the miraculous to happen. The children of Israel did not believe God would intervene. They couldn't see life any other way. Moses had experienced God speaking through a burning bush. God's promise that Moses would succeed was that he would meet God back at the mountain of the burning bush. God revealed to Moses what He could do in a willing vessel. God didn't need a person to "do" the miracle, He needed a person to lead His people. The people needed to see a leader. God needed a leader who would listen to Him and follow His plan. God needed a person who would demonstrate His love as he released His power to free the people and provide for the people (water from a rock, quail for month, and manna every day).

Fast forward 40 years, what did these miracles do for Joshua?

Joshua learned to recognize the presence of God, listen to God's instructions, and follow the plan. He knew God would lead him; therefore, all he had to do was to listen. He knew God would have His own plan; therefore, all he had to do was follow God said. God's leaders listen to Him. God's leaders know His plans are to be followed in order to get God's results. God's plan can be completely trusted. God is working all things together for our good.

What did these miracles and the dividing of the floodwaters of the Jordan do for all the people of the earth?

Rahab probably tells it best even before God pushed back the waters of the Jordan River 18 miles.

Joshua 2:9-11 (NKJV) ...“I know that the Lord has given you the land, that the terror of you has fallen on us, and that all the inhabitants of the land are fainthearted because of you. 10 For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were on the other side of the Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom you utterly destroyed. 11 And as soon as we heard these things, our hearts melted; neither did there remain any more courage in anyone because of you, for the Lord your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath.

God has been doing the miraculous over the last 40 years. I wonder how many people actually recognize His work? Rahab and all the inhabitant of the land recognized God being with His people. The miracles have increased in the last few years. God is not finished. There is a blockade, like the Jordan River preventing His people from getting into the land He has promised. But God says our time is now, are you ready?

Father, I ask for You to come and work Your miracles. There is a blockade in the way preventing us from getting into what You have promised. I know You can, for there is nothing to great for You. I know You will because now is the time for Your promise to be set into motion. I ask for You to open up the heavens and come here on earth. I ask for justice to take place. The deeds done in darkness to be brought into the light. I pray for authorities to have ears to hear You and a heart to follow Your plan. I pray for justice to take place. I pray for treason to be dealt with and judged for the lives they have cost. I pray for the riches of the wicked to be confiscated and given to those who have not been allowed to work, to restore businesses, and replace merchandise from the looting. I pray for You to make wide a place for Your people to cross. I ask for the wicked to be removed from power and the righteous to return to power. I pray for Your kingdom to come and Your will to be done. I pray we sanctify our hearts and minds. I pray we set our face to see You pass by so we follow You. I ask for You, this day, to release judgement upon the wicked and restore Your destiny to Your people in Jesus' name amen.
