Give Yourself Permission

Warriors Arise: February 18, 2023

1 Chronicles 13:8 (NKJV) Then David and all Israel played music before God with all their might, with singing, on harps, on stringed instruments, on tambourines, on cymbals, and with trumpets.

How much of the day do you spend giving praise to God? I have to answer this myself. They say exercising is a stress reliever. I would agree. However, I have also learned that worshipping God is not only a stress reliever, but it strengthens my faith. My mind is reset upon Him, what He has done and what I know He can do. My heart is passionate about hearing God's voice and taking every step with Him.

If you didn't read yesterday's blog, I would encourage you to go back to it. I don't want you to read the verses, I want to encourage you to live those verses. It isn't good enough for you and I read about others who worship God. We, ourselves, need to be worshippers of the Most High God for He is worthy. We need to acknowledge how amazing He is. We need to give ourselves permission to worship God. That seems odd; however, it is true. Worship can be standing still singing, but it can also be dancing, playing an instrument, laying on the ground before God, raising our hands, waving our hands, billows flying, flag twirling, or ribbon waving. Why be limited to one way in worshipping God? I do not believe God places limits on how we worship Him. We limit ourselves, "That's not my way. That isn't how I worship God. It just isn't my personality. I couldn't do that." Those aren't legitimate reasons; they are excuses that have kept us from truly pressing in to worship God. He is worthy of all our praise. We are to praise God with all of our heart, with all of our soul, with all of our mind, with all of our strength, because praise His is a demonstration of our love.

The closer I got to God, the more I desired to worship Him. I would stand and sing in my living room. Why do we struggle to raise our hands in worship? I'm not saying you have to, all the time, but if you rarely do, then why? I remember hearing a children's pastor share that raising our hands in worship is a form of surrender to God. We lift our hands to yield to Him, to agree with Him, to allow everything in us to be exposed to Him. He sees it anyway, so why position ourselves to let Him see into us? There is a difference between God seeing everything about us and our lives, verses letting Him see everything. When we let Him then we allow Him to minister to every part of us. We are not holding back. Think about it. Why do we keep our arms by our sides? They protect us. But lifting our hands in worship causes our vital organs to be exposed. Generally, vital organs can represent the heartbeat and passion of all that we are. Why not allow God to minister to the heartbeat and passion of all that we are? Why are we so afraid to worship God with hands lifted high?

I believe we struggle to be completely surrendered to God. This is why our arms remain at our side. We still feel in control. In worship, if our arms remain at our side week after week, then have we really come to worship God or attend church? What is the purse of corporate church if not to worship God? If we cannot completely come ready to worship God, fully surrendered to worship Him then what are we doing?

God will receive the level of worship we will give Him, but it doesn't mean we have given Him the level of worship He deserves.

Father, I come before You. I desire for my worship toward You to be completely surrendered. I do not want my arms to be the prison of my heartbeat and passion in life. I want my arms to allow my heartbeat and passion to be exposed and encompassed by Your amazing love. I trust You. I will lift my hands high. I will worship You. In my car, in my house, on a walk, riding a bike and yes, even in church, I will worship You with my whole heart. I will lift my hands and sing praises to You. My worship isn't about what others think. My worship is about what I give to You. I chose to give You my whole self in Jesus' name amen.
