1 Chronicles 16:7-10 (NKJV) On that day David first delivered this psalm into the hand of Asaph and his brethren, to thank the Lord:
8 Oh, give thanks to the Lord!
Call upon His name;
Make known His deeds among the peoples!
9 Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him;
Talk of all His wondrous works!
10 Glory in His holy name;
Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord!
"Glory in His holy name, what does that mean? According to Strong's, glory, in this verse, means to be clear, sound but unusually colorful. It also means to shine, to make a show, to boast, and thus be foolish, to rave and to celebrate.
That is a pretty extensive description. I have to ask myself; do I glory in His holy name? Do I glory in the Lord, my God? I find it odd. When I testify of what God has done in my life it is as if people think I am boasting about myself. This is more offensive to God than it is to me. Why? Because the person I am testifying to totally misses the opportunity to magnify God, acknowledge what He has done, and celebrate God with me. When they take the focus off of God doing the miraculous, they are missing the whole point of the testimony. It isn't that I am better than anyone else. God will do for others what He has done for me. The Bible tells us to stir ourselves up by way of reminder.
What are we to remember? We are to remember what God has done for us.
How do we remember what God has done for us? By testifying to others.
When do we need to remember? When others are in need of hope.
When we refuse to give testimony of what God has done, we are taking our miracle without giving thanks or gratitude. Honestly, when people do not testify of what God has done, I think they are being selfish. They are hoarding the miraculous of God. They are making it all about themselves. Either they don't believe God wants to do the miracle for anyone else, which is pride on their part, or they don't believe God did the miracle which is unbelief. Both are stealing from God and misrepresenting Him. We should want people to testify of what God is doing in their life. Then we can rejoice with them and we can tap into what God has done in their life to add fuel to the fire of our faith. Then we have greater faith to believe God will do the miraculous for us as well. It doesn't matter if we need or do not need the same miracle. When we acknowledge God doing the miraculous in someone's life, it fuels our faith.
Let your heart rejoice. Those who seek the Lord are to let their hearts rejoice in the Lord. You have a choice. Most of the time Christians choose to choke out the miraculous of God, because we won't rejoice with Him. I am a firm believer in the fact that when we refuse to testify, then we haven't fulling given credit to God for what He has done. When we refuse to give God credit then we dishonor Him. When we dishonor God we can't rejoice in Him. When we can't rejoice in Him, we can't give Him glory.
That breaks my heart. I see a picture of Christians living in a prison with the door wide open and no guards around. They won't get out of the prison because they won't acknowledge, give glory and rejoice in the Lord for the miracle, the prison door, He has unlocked and flung open.
Father, I want to rejoice in all You have done for me. I will testify of Your goodness. I will tell of Your greatness. I will acknowledge the wondrous things You do in my life and others I see. I will shine and be delighted in what You have done. I will let myself celebrate You. I will let myself give honor and glory and praise to You. I will make a show of You and boast about what You have done. I will not be selfish and hide what You have done. I will magnify my Lord in Jesus' name amen.
