Exodus 19:23-25 (NKJV) But Moses said to the Lord, “The people cannot come up to Mount Sinai; for You warned us, saying,‘Set bounds around the mountain and consecrate it.’ ” 24 Then the Lord said to him, “Away! Get down and then come up, you and Aaron with you. But do not let the priests and the people break through to come up to the Lord, lest He break out against them.” 25 So Moses went down to the people and spoke to them.
"I'm going to have to deal with that, aren't I?" Sometimes I am in the depth of my God-time, I have done everything to make sure I am ready to hear Him, worship Him and make my petitions known. Then I hear something. I try to ignore it, but I just can't. I tell myself, "Just be still and know that He is God. He can take care of this."
Psalms 46:10-11 (NKJV)
Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!
11 The Lord of hosts is with us;
The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah
However, there are times, situations can't be ignored and you have to go deal with it. I needed to go and address the racket going on outside of my quiet place. It wasn't going to stop. It may be one of those moments where I can apply how Jesus responded. He was asleep at the bow of the boat in the middle of the tempest while at sea. The disciples were bailing out the water, but it was coming in faster than they could get rid of it. They go and wake Him up. I believe Jesus could sleep in the midst of that storm, because He was already in the presence of God, as Psalm 46:10-11 reveals. But then the disciples woke him up. They were afraid. They couldn't get themselves out of this situation. If anyone could, Jesus could.
Mark 4:35-39 (NKJV) On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, “Let us cross over to the other side.” 36 Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. 37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. 38 But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” 39 Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.
Moses was in the presence of God. I don't know about you, but if I had been in Moses' situation I would not have wanted to be sent away to deal with the people. I would have said the same thing, "I set boundaries. I told them what they could and couldn't do. They will be alright." I have said these things to God a number of times and even to others. I get involved with what I am doing, into my God-time and do not want to be sent away to deal with something. It is kind of like one of those situations when all of your kids are home and you realize, "It's a little too quiet." You are enjoying the quiet, but you know if you don't go check on everyone you will be in for a big surprise. You will have to deal with the situation and that you didn't respond to when you knew you should have.
God wasn't sending Moses away for an extended period of time. God sent Moses to go deal with something. There are times when God sends us away to deal with a situation. He always intends for us to come back. It didn't say that the smoke God came upon the mountain in left or that He left the mountain. God remained. He waited for Moses to go check on the children of Israel and address them, so they did not put themselves in danger.
When you are in the presence of God and He makes you aware of a situation you need to go deal with, you need to go deal with it. Respond as Jesus, "Peace, be still!" And then return to God. He is waiting to resume your time with Him. He will pick up where things were left.
Father, I want to respond quicker to Your leading. I want to know Your voice. As much as I love being in Your presence, there are times I know You have made me aware of the quiet that I need to go check on. There are times when it seems like chaos is going on outside of my room and I want to remain in Your presence. I do not want to get swallowed up by the tempest outside my door. I ask for You to give me courage to be responsible to go to bring peace to the tempest. I pray I respond quickly to Your leading and do exactly what You have told me to do. I do not want to get swept into the storm or become so frustrated I don't return to Your presence. Come and lead me. I will return for our time of communing in Jesus' name amen.
