God Showed Up

Warriors Arise: July 13, 2023

Matthew 3:16-17 (NKJV) When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. 17 And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

Here, in Matthew, we see God opening the heavens to celebrate His Son. He spoke from heaven and announced to everyone and everything that this is His Son. He admonished His Son and then followed with a gift. He gave Him the Holy Spirit. God showed up and brought a gift!

The reason I do not want to rush past this is because so many people pray and pray and pray for God to show up. Daniel prayed for 70 years, three times a day for God to show up and deliver them. He didn't want God to forget His promises and he wanted the strength to see the promise of God become a reality.

How many times had the children of Israel, who were in bondage for 420 years, prayed for God to show up. They were in horrific circumstances. They wanted God to show up and deliver them. He had promised their forefathers all of Canaan. It was to be their land. God promised. So, where was God? They wanted God to show up sooner rather than later.

I would think Jesus was waiting for His Father to show up. He didn't know what to do, other than what Mary asked of Him. His earthly father had passed away. Jewish custom would have Him, as the oldest, take over His father's business and take care of, not only His mother, but all of His siblings and their families. He knew there was more. He knew He was there to be a demonstration of God's love to His people. He found Himself going to the Jordan to hear John and his message. He knew in His heart He was to be baptized by John. How long had Jesus waited to see His Father, hear His voice, and receive instruction on what to do?

How long had Jesus waited for God to show up and verify who He was?

How many of us wait for God to show up to verify who we are?

How many of us wait for God to show up to validate our purpose?

How many of us wait for God to speak words of affirmation over us?

How many of us what for God to tell others who we are?

Jesus did not do anything that He didn't see His Father doing. I wonder how much turmoil He had going on inside of Him knowing He could heal people, deliver them, raise them from the dead, or cleanse them from their leprosy, but He was waiting on God. He would not act before His time. It didn't go too well for Moses and cost the children of Israel an extra thirty years of enslavement in Egypt, because he operated ten years too early. Jesus would not make that mistake. He would not operate before God said it was time. He would have His Father's blessing. He would have His Father's announcement. He would have His Father's authority to commission Him. He would have His Father's timing. God would show up and He did.

Father, there are times I have prayed and prayed for You to come. I want the heavens to be opened and your presence to be made know. I am beside myself in knowing You are for me. You are for those You will use me to demonstrate Your love. I know You are faithful. You will fulfill Your Word in me and through me. You will show up. I have no doubt. Your love compels You to bless me, position me, value me, and commission me. I will honor You. I will wait for Your timing. I will ready myself for all You have placed within me to do. I will be molded by Your hands and strengthened by Your joy. I will know Your love and share it with others. You are faithful. You will show up, in Jesus name amen.
