Warriors Arise: December 29, 2023
Matthew 6:9-11 In this manner, therefore, pray:
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
Let's not take lightly what is being said with the next part of the prayer. "Give us this day our daily bread." It is a statement and a petition. It could even be a command. Some people may even cry out to the Father in heaven, desperate for a word.
We can be in a such a situation in life that we are desperate for bread from our Father in heaven. Things of this earth will not satisfy. We need bread from Father.
Do you remember the last time you wandered into the kitchen and looked through the refrigerator for something to eat? You grabbed something, "This is it." You go back to what you were doing and eat your grab snack. A few minutes later you are headed to the kitchen again. That didn't quite hit the spot, so you are rummaging for something else.
You find it, prepare it and head back to the ballgame or movie your were watching or work you were doing and eat it. Then you find yourself looking in the cupboards, because you are not satisfied.
Have you ever thought, "I can't possibly be hungry, but I am wanting something."
How many times do we find ourselves looking for something to satisfy us when what we need is a word from our Father in heaven. We need His bread. He has exactly what we need and not only that, He has exactly what we "want", what we are looking for.
For years, I had trained myself to look everywhere, but to my Father in heaven to fill the desire within. My Father in heaven was waiting for me to get up and go to Him. He knew exactly what I was looking for. He desires to give me what I need. I began to ask myself, Father, what is it I am looking for? What is it that I need? What truly is my heart's yearning? I am hungry and need the bread only You can give. I need bread that will satisfy me today.
My Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Today, I need Your bread. I need a specific word from You to fulfill the desire within me. I trust You to satisfy me. I trust You to bring the bread I need to eat. I will open my heart and let You search my mind. Before I go and search through Your Word for something specific for this hunger to be satisfied, I will position myself before You. I want to eat what You prepare for me, because I know it will satisfy my body, soul and spirit in Jesus' name amen.
