Good News, Good News

Warriors Arise: March 29, 2023

1 Chronicles 16:7-23 (NKJV) On that day David first delivered this psalm into the hand of Asaph and his brethren, to thank the Lord: 8 Oh, give thanks to the Lord!

Call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples! 9 Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him; Talk of all His wondrous works! 10 Glory in His holy name; Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord! 11 Seek the Lord and His strength;

Seek His face evermore!

12 Remember His marvelous works which He has done,

His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth,

13 O seed of Israel His servant,

You children of Jacob, His chosen ones!

14 He is the Lord our God;

His judgments are in all the earth.

15 Remember His covenant forever,

The word which He commanded, for a thousand generations,

16 The covenant which He made with Abraham,

And His oath to Isaac,

17 And confirmed it to Jacob for a statute,

To Israel for an everlasting covenant,

18 Saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaan

As the allotment of your inheritance,”

19 When you were few in number,

Indeed very few, and strangers in it.

20 When they went from one nation to another,

And from one kingdom to another people,

21 He permitted no man to do them wrong;

Yes, He rebuked kings for their sakes,

22 Saying, “Do not touch My anointed ones,

And do My prophets no harm.”

23 Sing to the Lord, all the earth;

Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.

Wow! David continues to amaze me. His terminology is what Jesus uses in referring to Himself. Isaiah, who is recognized as a prophet uses similar verbiage with more definition of what it would look like when we share the good news of His salvation.

Isaiah 61:1-2 (NKJV)

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me

To preach good tidings to the poor;

He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,

To proclaim liberty to the captives,

And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;

2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord,

Good tidings is the same as good news. The remainder of verse 1 and 2 is a more extensive definition of salvation. It is the demonstrative, tangible reality of salvation.

David is speaking in terms he probably doesn't even comprehend. "…Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day." It is as if he is calling in Jesus. He wants to see the Salvation of the Lord in his time.

David's words are similar to the words Jesus spoke when He released and commissioned His disciples to do the work of the good news. Matthew 10:7-8 (NKJV) And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ 8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.

Salvation in verse 23 refers to deliverance. God not only delivered them from Egypt, but also from coming under the control of kings on their journey to the promise land and through wandering in the wilderness. For forty years, God delivered them from the hands of many kings who wanted to overtake them and make them slaves to their kingdom. God would not have it. Whom He has set free is free indeed. At this time, He would not allow anyone to take them over and make them their slaves. But is that all David was referring to? Was David seeing into the future of what was to come, the Salvation by the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ?

David's exhortation for them to share the good news of His salvation day to day is in present tense. He is wanting them to live in the salvation of the good news each and every day. He wanted them to embrace all God had done for their forefathers, all God was doing in their day, and all God was going to do in their future. They were to remember and proclaim the good news of His salvation day to day.

This changes my thinking when I wake up. Every day thinking, speaking out loud, "God has good news for me. His Word is true and perfect. He will work all things out in my favor. He is for me and the future He has for me is good, perfect and acceptable. His salvation is complete. I am delivered from the hands of my enemy. I am redeemed by the blood of the Lamb and I am restored to the purposes and calling my God placed within me. I am a child of God and He is mine. I will honor Him, live in Christ and the Holy Spirit in me to fullfill the purposes of God for my life in Jesus' name amen."
