Hanging Out with Angels

Warriors Arise: April 17, 2021

Daniel 6:21-22 (NKJV) Then Daniel said to the king, “O king, live forever! 22 My God sent His angel and shut the lions’ mouths, so that they have not hurt me, because I was found innocent before Him; and also, O king, I have done no wrong before you.”

Does anybody else think it is pretty cool that Daniel got to hang out with angels all night! I would so love to see a movie of this! Do you think as Daniel is being cast into the lions' den, a lions jumps to be the first to grasp him in his jaws but instead an angel swoops in and grabs the lion's head and under his jaw and clamps it shut?

Maybe it isn't as dramatic as that. However, God has definitely waited until the last possible minute. The children of Israel were camped by the Dead Sea for a couple of days and then see Pharaoh and his chariots riding fast toward them. Then God parts the sea.

Of course, it could be that the angels were already there and each had wrangled a lion before the stone was removed and Daniel was cast inside. The three women arrived at the tomb and the angels were already there, waiting on them. They didn't swoop in to deliver the message like the night when the shepherds were told of the news of King Jesus being born in a stable in Bethlehem.

No matter how it happened, I intend to watch the reruns of this when I get to heaven. There will be time, I will have all of eternity. Even so, in Daniel's case, we do not see angels hanging out all night or even all day for that matter with a human. There was a time when angels ate with Abraham. They would come the closest to spending a meal time with a human. That time was at least three or four hours. Because Abraham gave orders for the calf to be slaughtered and prepared. But it was not all day because the angels were on a mission. They were headed to Sodom and Gomorrah. They had time to get Lot and his family out of the city. It was not night time yet.

I wonder what Daniel thought of seeing the angels. When we look at the description from the Bible of what angels look like, they are not human. They are not fat little babies with wings. I wonder when the lions saw the angels, if they cowards in fear? Like I said, I can't wait for the rerun when I get to heaven.

Maybe you have never thought about Daniel hanging out with angels all night! What that would be like. Was he speechless? Awe struck? Did he have a million questions? Did the angels answer him? Could they understand one another? Then to think, you and I could have entertained angels!

Hebrews 12:25 - 13:2 (NKJV) 25 See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven, 26 whose voice then shook the earth; but now He has promised, saying, “Yet once more I shake not only the earth, but also heaven.” 27 Now this, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of those things that are being shaken, as of things that are made, that the things which cannot be shaken may remain.

28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. 29 For our God is a consuming fire. 13:1 Let brotherly love continue. 2 Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels.

In the middle of teaching a Biblical, godly truth, Paul, nonchalantly tells the people, "Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels." and then goes back into listing things they need to do as a final thought.

Hold on. That is over-the-top! You and I could have already entertained angels! Does that not just blow your mind? Are you able to conceive this? You could have entertained angels and you weren't even aware of it. What does that mean? Why would an angel interact with us? What would be the purpose?

Just my thoughts. I believe when we encourage an angel our spirit is in connection, strengthened by who sent them. I believe there are times when an angel has passed by us and removed the heaviness from our heart, the confusion from our mind, and the loneliness in our being. Something changes within us and we don't know why. I believe these are times when we came in contact with or passed by one of God's angels. Our countenance changed and we feel hope again; there is a willingness in our minds to believe again, and there is an assurance that things will not always be isolated and lonely. However, Holy Spirit brings this freedom as well.

Daniel spent the entire night with God's holy angels. He did have to go through the yuck of the governors and satraps as well a being thrown into the lions' den; but what a night!

Father, You sent your angels to shut the mouths of lions when Daniel was cast into the lions' den. You send Your angels for me as well. I may not have known they were there nor what they did, but I know You are present with me. You send help my way when I need it. Your angels defend me from the attacks of the enemy. Your angels move cars out of the way, so I do not get crushed. Your angels have kept me safe. Thank You for loving me so dearly that You didn't allow the enemy to overtake me or keep me bound. I worship You for all You have done. You have taken care of me in ways I don't even know. You are my God and there is no other; who loves me like You do? I bless Your Holy name in Jesus' name amen.
