He Came After Me

Warriors Arise: November 12, 2022

John 10:27 (NKJV) My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.

The second relationship God offers us is Shepherd to sheep. Those of us who believe Jesus is the Christ who came to earth as a man, lived, died and rose again as our Savior, confessed our sin and received His as our Lord and Savior, are one of His sheep. We heard His voice and we answered Him. When He spoke we followed.

We have all known Jesus to leave the 99 and come after us.

Matthew 18:12-14 (NKJV) “What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the one that is straying? 13 And if he should find it, assuredly, I say to you, he rejoices more over that sheep than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray. 14 Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.

I have not lived a perfect life. I have needed the Good Shepherd. I have needed Him to come after me. I needed Him to pull me away from the cliff. I have needed Him to clean me up and carry me. I have needed to Him to take me to the still waters and keep me safe. I have needed Him to lead me to green pastures. I have needed Him to anoint my head with oil to keep me from diseases. I can agree with the Psalmist, the Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. It isn't that I do not have any wants, it's that I know He has already supplied for my every need. He is my God and I am thankful that He is my Shepherd.

As His sheep, I acknowledge that I need His leading in my life. I acknowledge, I do not make good decisions. I acknowledge, His way is not just a better way than mine, His way is the best way. He will take care of me. I acknowledge, His provision is upon my life. I acknowledge He is gentle in caring for me. I acknowledge He cleanses me and anointed me with oil. I acknowledge He is my Shepherd.

When I am in the Shepherd to sheep relationship there is peace in my life. I can completely trust Jesus to lead me in the way that leads to His provision and His protection. It is so much easier to be in this relationship when I am going through the valley of the shadow of death as in Psalm 23. When I feel darkness all around and hopelessness begin to swallow me, I remember I am His sheep. All I have to do is follow the Shepherd. He will lead me through. He will not abandon me. He did not lead me into the darkness, He led me through the darkness. He did not cause the darkness but He knows how to get me out. All I have to do is follow Him as sheep follow their shepherd. All I have to tell myself, "I am the Lord's and He is mine, look to Him and follow where He leads. Everything will work out for me. The darkness will go because My Savior, My Shepherd, is leading me out of darkness and into His glorious light."

Father, I am truly thankful for this relationship. I have learned to follow you as a sheep follows it's shepherd. You have always been there. You never left me in darkness. You made sure I could see You. Then it was my choice to follow. Thank You for leading me out of darkness and into the light. Thank You for providing green pastures. You provide for me in ways I never dreamed I would need. You brought me to still waters, the place of peace where I could be refreshed by You. This beautiful place of peace by the still waters fills me with Your love and cleanses me. Thank You for leading me. I trust You as a sheep trusts its shepherd for You are my Shepherd in Jesus' name amen.
