Warriors Arise: January 2, 2021
Joshua 3:5-8 (NKJV) And Joshua said to the people, “Sanctify yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you.” 6 Then Joshua spoke to the priests, saying, “Take up the ark of the covenant and cross over before the people.” So they took up the ark of the covenant and went before the people. 7 And the Lord said to Joshua, “This day I will begin to exalt you in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. 8 You shall command the priests who bear the ark of the covenant, saying, ‘When you have come to the edge of the water of the Jordan, you shall stand in the Jordan.’ ”
In my mind I picture the children of Israel almost holding their breath. Some of them have been waiting for 40 years to crossover into their Promised Land. Remember Caleb is at least 80 years old. God specifically spoke to him, saying he would get the land he surveyed, the land where the giants lived. I bet he has all kinds of nervous energy and readiness to get this party started! Either that or he is totally stoic, unmovable, focused and determined.
Joshua had just given the order the priests to pick up and carry the ark of the covenant. It is time to crossover. As he is watching and everyone is getting their supplies hoisted to their shoulders, the Lord speaks to Joshua. In my mind I see the Lord standing beside Joshua, leaning toward him, saying in a firm whisper, “This day I will begin to exalt you in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. You shall command the priests who bear the ark of the covenant, saying, ‘When you have come to the edge of the water of the Jordan, you shall stand in the Jordan.’ ”
Wouldn't chills run up your spine? Joshua has been following Moses around since they left Egypt. He was been going to the tent of meeting but never asked to enter when the Lord appeared and Moses went in. Now, just after he instructed the priests to go forth, the Lord confirms his authority to do so. Have you ever given a command, thinking, "I can't believe I said that?! Am I really the leader? The one in charge?" And then Lord shows up.
Not only does the Lord show up but He speaks directly to Joshua one more time. He affirmed what Joshua had done and was to do. Leading the children of Israel was a huge undertaking. God said He would be with Joshua just like He was with Moses and here He was. From the beginning of Joshua's leadership God was with him.
The calling God has placed on your life, either you are operating in it or about to. God desires to be with you, direct you and oppose your enemies with you. What He did with Moses and Joshua, God will do with you when you step into the position for which God has called you.
Father, I ask for You to speak to me. I want to be directed through Your plan by Your word. I ask for my ears to be open and my mind to receive what You are saying. You love me so much You will speak to me because You want me to achieve the calling You have placed in my life. I ask for Your wisdom to be made known to me. I ask for You to minister to my heart and encourage me to follow the path You have placed before me. You are faithful to guide me where You are sending me. I ask for You to speak to me. I want to know Your voice and do as You direct. I ask for Your words to direct me in what You have put in my hands to accomplish. You are with me always and I will seek You and listen for Your voice. It is time to hear Your voice, follow Your plan and achieve the dreams You have in Jesus' name amen.
