Warriors Arise: May 19th, 2020
The word "there" has stood out to me for years. I heard a message called ''A Place Called There." The speaker shared a number of examples from the Bible where God had provided in the place He sent them, their place of there. For example, God sent Elijah to a specific place on the river and the ravens would bring him food there. If Elijah has gone a mile short of the "there" God sent him, would he have received the food sent by God through the ravens?
"Now when she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there..."
The word "there" doesn't necessarily add to the verse. If the verse had left out the word it would still mean Mary turned around and saw Jesus. We would all think Jesus was right in front of her, or at least within her view. So for the author to add the word "there" means he wanted to emphasize the fact that indeed Jesus was standing right in front of Mary: "she turned around and saw Jesus standing there". Jesus was in front of Mary, not a corpse, not a ghost, but in the flesh. Her Jesus, her Lord, her Redeemer, her Deliverer, her Savior, her Messiah. Jesus, the One she had returned to find, was standing there.
God will meet You in your place called "there".
To some this pandemic is nothing but a hoax, a way for the government to control our freedom; to others they are feeling the devastation of losing their loved ones without getting to say good-bye. The coronavirus came incredibly fast and there didn't seem to be anything we could do to stop it. Each of us have had a place called "there." Some of us have been so completely protected from its deadly blow that we do not think it really happened or might happen to us.
There were many people back in Mary Magdalene's time who didn't think Jesus' dying on the cross was any big deal. The Romans regularly crucified people and Jesus was just one of the unlucky ones. The Romans didn't need a reason to crucify someone. They were the government; therefore, when they "said so" it happened.
Jesus is real and He did die for our sins upon that cross, through the horrific torture device of the cross. He was there, up on that cross. Then He was taken to the tomb. He was there, dead in the tomb. He went to hell and there he freed the captives from satan. He returned to earth to meet His disciples but was called back because of one woman's desperation to find Him and Jesus stood there, directly in front of her.
Warriors we are going to pray God meets each person in their place called '"there."
Father, You are amazing. You provide for us in so many ways. Mary needed to see Jesus. She pursued Him and He returned to where she was. He stood "there." Many have been wondering where is God. I am thankful that You have come. You have been seen healing the sick, comforting the broken hearted, strengthening the weak, and pouring out Your love on individuals to cast out all fear. You have met us right where we are. I pray for each person to see that You are not a distant God. You come to our side. You are Emmanuel: God with us. I pray for each person to see Jesus standing there, in the middle of what is going on in their lives. I am thankful Your hand of protection has kept billions from being infected with the coronavirus. Life has continued in the midst of the pandemic. There are other areas of danger which many are facing. There are children who are missing. I ask for Jesus to meet them and walk them home, safely. There are others who have been diagnosed with cancer and need Jesus to stand "there" ready to heal them. Some are do not know what to do with their jobs, the one they had before the pandemic and what is before them. Each one needs to know exactly where their "there" is. Some You are telling to remain where they are and others You have provided another way for them. I ask for Jesus to meet each one "there." I ask for Jesus to come and bring security in what each one is to do, courage to do what Jesus is telling them, and faith to see Jesus is "there." I ask for Your presence to be made known and for people to see You are the God who cares. You return and make sure we can go on with what You have put before us. You return and meet us in our "there." Thank you Jesus for Your love, for Your love never fails. This I pray in Jesus' name amen!
