Hell will Never be My Address

Warriors Arise: March 31, 2024

Matthew 8:18-20 And when Jesus saw great multitudes about Him, He gave a command to depart to the other side. Then a certain scribe came and said to Him, “Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go.”

And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.”

I wonder if Jesus was looking ahead when He said, "But the son of Man has nowhere to lay His head." When He was saying this, was He looking into His future? When the time came for Him to take His final walk to Golgotha, where did He think His body would be laid? Did He see Himself being thrown in the pit of rotting bodies and brittle bones just beyond the cross where He would be crucified? Where would the body of Jesus be laid? Is this what Jesus was referring to when answering the man who was so willing to follow Him anywhere?

Even though Jesus didn't know if His body would be laid in a tomb, God took care of that. Joseph, a man from Arimathea petitioned to have Jesus laid in his tomb (Matthew 27:57). God made sure His Son had a place to lay His head.

I am so moved by the song Resurrecting. One of the lines I thoroughly enjoy, "The tomb where soldiers watched in vein was borrowed for three days." The priests were concerned about who would get in to the grave to steal Jesus' body, but they should have been concerned about Who was coming out in three days! Wild! Isn't the Bible fun! Jesus came back from the dead after conquering sin, death and hell. Because of what Jesus did, You and I are free from the clutches of sin, death has no hold on us, and hell will never be our address!

Have you even made a vow to someone? You told them you would do something or you would be there and then you didn't do what you said you would do or you didn't show up like you said you were going to show up?

My Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. I come to You today and yield. I do not know if I will be able to follow You everywhere You lead. I do not know if I will be discouraged or unable. I pray I follow You every minute of every day. I pray my heart is tender toward You. I pray I will know You and walk in the fullness of all You have set before me. I pray I will be a person who is known for my yes being yes and my no being no. When I am weak, You will show Yourself to be strong. When I am discouraged, I will seek You for boldness to continue. I will seek You and find You. I will follow You all of the days of my life in Jesus' Name, amen.
