Romans 5:5 (NKJV) Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
This is an amazing verse. Now, right now, hope does not disappoint. That is a powerful statement. In my thoughts right now, hope does not disappoint. Why is that?
If we are in hope then we can't be in discouragement, fear or wayward thinking. Hope is consuming. It is having our mind set upon the Lord. It is more than believing what the Lord can do. It is believing what He will do. We cannot be in hope if we are discouraged. Being discouraged means we have given up hope. Therefore, when discouragement tries to take over our thoughts, we have to tell it to go, by reminding ourselves of the hope we have in Christ. God has given us His love. His love gives us the courage we need to remain in hope. When we remain in hope we remain faithful to believing God will do what He can do in our situation.
Hope also dislodges the grip fear has upon our lives. Hope recognizes that fear has highjacked our thoughts and taken us captive. But God pours out His love upon us and we are set free from fear. When we receive God's love then we are made free and hope is restored. We cannot allow fear to highjack our thoughts. When a thought comes that does not align itself with the character of God then we are to get rid of it. We are to focus our minds on the goodness of God, all He has done (not what He hasn't). How does fear highjack our thoughts? Fear highjacks our thoughts, because we allow our mind to replay what God hasn't done yet. We want God to cater to our every desire, in our time-frame. This is taking God out of being God. This is saying we know what is best. We have no idea what is best. We can't see into the future. We do not know what is going on in another's life. We do not know God's plans. We have to trust where we are right now is the best God has for us, if we have been willing to let Him be in charge. Things may not be the best right now because we have not allowed God to be in charge.
We have thwarted God's best for our lives, because we haven't allow Him to lead us.
We have rejected God's blessings upon our lives, because we have not aligned our decisions with what God has laid before us.
We have sabotaged God's bounty into our lives because we have embraced the idea that there is something holy about having less than and living without the fullness of what God has desired to give us.
Hope is poisoned when we allow fear to abound in our thoughts, words and actions. Fear is evident when we speak words of discouragement, negativity, and apathy.
Hope establishes our minds upon Christ. We have the mind of Christ when we have hope. We have clear thoughts when we have hope. Hope deflects wayward thinking. Hope is like an anchor for our mind. When we see a storm coming, we lower our anchor and stay connected to the rock. Hope is doesn't entertain wayward thoughts. We entertain wayward thoughts when we have turned our back on hope. Wayward thoughts are an indicator that we have cut hope from our thinking.
When we can see God doing amazing things, then we have hope; and we recognize God is with us and for us. When we have hope we delight in what is to come instead of discouragement over what could go wrong. Setting ourselves up for the disappointment by dwelling on what could go wrong, actually sets itself up against what God has set in place to bless us. We can and often do miss the blessings of God, because we have placed such parameters on Him. If He doesn't make things happen the way we want them then He doesn't love us and there is no reason to ever hope again. This is seriously wrong. The perfect situation we imagine rarely lines up with reality. When it doesn't, then we have a bigger problem. Disappointment leads to discouragement which opens the door for wayward thinking and fear highjacks our minds.
Our hope is in God releasing blessings into our lives as we embrace each blessing as a gift for that moment, event, or gathering rather than an expectation that God has to meet our every demand. Hope is a huge gift that contains blessings for the moment and strength for the future. Now, hope does not disappoint. We must stay in the "now" to remain in hope. See the blessing right now. See what God has done right now. Let your hope be empowered by acknowledging what God is doing rather than what you think He isn't doing.
Father, in this moment I make my mind focus on You. In this moment, I ask for You to open my eyes. I desire to live in the now. I desire to see the blessings You have brought before me. I desire to know about You and Your amazing love. I receive hope for my now. I lift my eyes and celebrate what I have. You have given so much. You have delighted in me. You have supplied for my every need. You have gotten me through and I was NEVER alone. You have given me strength when I thought I didn't have any more. You have delighted in me and called me into Your presence. You are so very good. I am encouraged, because I see the work of Your hand in my life. I am full of faith, because I have not allowed fear to highjack my hope in You. I have a sound mind, because I will not entertain thoughts that question Your ability or love toward me. How foolish to think You do not love me? You have brought me through so much and empowered me to achieve great exploits with You. I will remind myself of all You have done and put my trust in You for what You are doing. Your love is amazing and I will be steadfast in my hope in You. I receive the gift of hope in Jesus' name amen.
