Warriors Arise: August 27, 2022
1 Samuel 18:5 (NKJV) So David went out wherever Saul sent him, and behaved wisely. And Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people and also in the sight of Saul's servants.
David is just a youth. He is just learning to be a warrior. Jonathan is training him. He got lucky when he slung that stone and killed the giant. Luck doesn't make someone a battle commander. How can he lead us? Didn't his brother say he was a shepherd and tended their father's sheep? This just doesn't make sense. How could Saul put this boy over us? We are warriors. We are the men of war for Israel. This is an insult. I don't care who he killed or what giant he slayed, it doesn't mean he can lead warriors.
Have you ever felt this way about someone who has been placed over you? How could Saul place this youth over us? Didn't his brother say he was a shepherd of a few sheep? I don't care if he did kill the giant; it was a lucky shot.
1 Timothy 4:12 (NKJV) Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
I do like the verse Paul follows with.
1 Timothy 4:13 (NKJV) Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
Until I get there, take them to school! Show them what you know. They will need to humble themselves under you in order to be prepared for what I am going to teach. If they can't learn from you, they won't be able to understand what I will be teaching them.
1 Timothy 4:14 (NKJV) Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership.
Timothy is not to neglect the gift that is within him. No matter what others think of you, whether they have an issue with your age, your looks, your voice, your anything, do not neglect the gift God has given you, the very one attached to the very core of who you are. David is young and the king appointed him over the men of war. But David had something inside of him just like Timothy. David had a heart after God and that made him a a great warrior.
Father, I desire to know the gift You have placed inside of me. I desire to walk in the fullness of that gift. I want to bring honor to You as I embrace, develop and administer that gift. I am grateful for the life you have given me and the gifts You have put inside of me. I boldly embrace each gifting and watch as You give opportunity for each one to be developed and administered to rid the land of the enemy and expand Your kingdom here on earth. You are amazing. I will draw for You what i need to fulfill the dreams You have placed within me. I will honor You with my life and the gifts You have placed inside of me in Jesus' name amen.
