Warriors Arise: March 24, 2021
Daniel 6:14-15 (NKJV) And the king, when he heard these words, was greatly displeased with himself, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him; and he labored till the going down of the sun to deliver him. 15 Then these men approached the king, and said to the king, “Know, O king, that it is the law of the Medes and Persians that no decree or statute which the king establishes may be changed.”
These men have such nerve. They were so bent on seeing Daniel killed they don't even bat an eye. Instead of being in fear, when they drew straws to see who would go tell the king he must act, it is as if they got to tell like a badge of authority. My mind is blown away by their arrogance. I wonder if they really knew how their trap for Daniel bothered the king? No king would like being played by his advisors.
Do you think while the king was searching the scrolls to find something to overturn his decree, they were laughing in their chambers? Do you think they had an informant who would let them know the king's status? Do you think they were already celebrating? Maybe they had such boldness to come before the king in this manner, because they were drunk. This would be their second time to inform the king of his decree and his duty. At what point do you think they might get a clue that this was not a good idea. None of them were going to be selected by the king to take Daniel's place because the king really did like Daniel.
My heart hurts for Darius. Nobody likes to be played. Nobody likes to be in a position of authority and have someone manipulate you in order to sway your judgement and actions. Nobody likes to be a pawn. No matter how the decree came about, he signed it. He, as the authority in the land, would be responsible to carry out the decree.
According to the decree, Daniel was in the wrong. Darius would have to do what he didn't want to do in his heart. Even though Daniel did wrong according to the decree, he had to trust God to honor him as he had been faithful to honor God.
Luke 9: 23-26 (NKJV) Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. 24 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it. 25 For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost? 26 For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when He comes in His own glory, and in His Father's, and of the holy angels.
Have you been in a situation where you needed to do what God told you to do rather than what people wanted you to do?
We can't be so much of a people pleaser that we reject God.
We must not allow our desire for a certain position to challenge our standing with God.
We must not get so wrapped up in a title that we lose our relationship with God.
We must not indulge in the benefits and miss out of the blessings God is about to release to us.
It comes down to one thing. Do you value your relationship with God more than what people think, more than the position you hold, more than the title you carry, and more than the benefits you are receiving?
Father, I lay my life down and pick up our relationship. I lay down my goals, dreams, position, friends, relationships, finances, and benefits before You. I want nothing to come in between You and me. Any dream I want to fulfill I want to have come from You. Any goal I set my mind to achieve I want to have been inspired by You. Any friends I invest my time I want to be strengthened by Your Spirit. Any relationships that I develop I want to be stirring up one another in the things of Christ. Any finances to be made I want to be enhanced by kingdom principles. Any benefits I am to receive I want to be in direct correlation of what You have for me. You are my God and there is no other. You are my strength to accomplish the dreams You have put inside of me. You give me courage to lay hold of the goals I need to achieve. You position people around me who will join me, fight for me, and make a way for me. You have given me relationships with people who have resources and skills to help me achieve the dreams You have placed inside of me. You will provide the finances and the benefits to accomplish these dreams. There is no one who can make these dreams become reality other than You encouraging me to stay focused and get to work on Your plan. Come and direct my path, speak clearly to me, and I will follow You in Jesus' name amen.
