1 Chronicles 16:7-27 (NKJV) On that day David first delivered this psalm into the hand of Asaph and his brethren, to thank the Lord:
8 Oh, give thanks to the Lord!
Call upon His name;
Make known His deeds among the peoples!
9 Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him;
Talk of all His wondrous works!
10 Glory in His holy name;
Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord!
11 Seek the Lord and His strength;
Seek His face evermore!
12 Remember His marvelous works which He has done,
His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth,
13 O seed of Israel His servant,
You children of Jacob, His chosen ones!
14 He is the Lord our God;
His judgments are in all the earth.
15 Remember His covenant forever,
The word which He commanded, for a thousand generations,
16 The covenant which He made with Abraham,
And His oath to Isaac,
17 And confirmed it to Jacob for a statute,
To Israel for an everlasting covenant,
18 Saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaan
As the allotment of your inheritance,”
19 When you were few in number,
Indeed very few, and strangers in it.
20 When they went from one nation to another,
And from one kingdom to another people,
21 He permitted no man to do them wrong;
Yes, He rebuked kings for their sakes,
22 Saying, “Do not touch My anointed ones,
And do My prophets no harm.”
23 Sing to the Lord, all the earth;
Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.
24 Declare His glory among the nations,
His wonders among all peoples.
25 For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised;
He is also to be feared above all gods.
26 For all the gods of the peoples are idols,
But the Lord made the heavens.
27 Honor and majesty are before Him;
Strength and gladness are in His place.
Honor: magnificence, i.e. ornament or splendor: — beauty, comeliness, excellency, glorious, glory, goodly, honour, majesty. (Strong's)
Majesty: from an unused root; grandeur (i.e. an imposing form and appearance): — beauty, comeliness, excellency, glorious, glory, goodly, honour, majesty. (Strong's)
How are honor and majesty before God? What does this mean? The wording would make this a command statement. It is being stated as a fact. David knows the honor and majesty of God. He has seen it. He has sensed it. He has anticipated it. He has experienced it. So, the question I have to ask myself, "Do I know the honor and majesty of God? Do I know how to honor and respond to the majesty of God?"
Since honor and majesty are before God, we should be able to see it, sense it, and experience it. Reading that verse makes me want to close my eyes and allow God to give me a picture in my mind of what it looks like.
Go ahead, close your eyes and ask God to show you the honor and majesty before Him.
Father, as I close my eyes and quiet my mind, I ask for You to reveal to me the honor and majesty David is talking about. It is the beauty of our land, the sunrise that greets us each day? It is a baby's giggle or a child's love toward someone gruff? Is it when You observe reconciliation and forgiveness? Is it the sound of thunder or the flash of lightning? Is it the cry of a person's heart for freedom? Is it when Your ear hears someone confess their sin and make Jesus their Savior and Lord? Is it the miracles You do each day? Is it when people thankful You for the miracle You have done in their life? What does this verse mean? How are honor and majesty before You? Come and reveal this to me in Jesus' name amen.
