Warriors Arise: November 1, 2020
Luke 24:48-49 (NKJV) And you are witnesses of these things. 49 Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”
I totally find this funny. I shared the definition of tarry with Selah and asked her what she thought it meant. According to Strong's - tarry is the active form of to sit down. Selah proceeded to sit down wiggling her body until she was seated. It was a sight to see!
Scripture does not tell us how many days Jesus was teaching the disciples on the mountain in Galilee. But at some point they returned to Jerusalem. I am trying to keep the Scriptures in order of how they happened. I will share more in a later Warriors Arise, but just a snippet now, Jesus is in Jerusalem when they walk out to Bethany where He ascends to heaven. They might still be on the mountain in Galilee or they are on their way back to Jerusalem. Scripture also tells us 500 people saw Jesus alive after His crucifixion. We will get to that as well.
So, how did you like waiting for me to move on with today's Warriors Arise?
The previous paragraph didn't have to happen and I am still glad you are reading. Verse 49 to the disciples, is almost like Christmas to us. At Christmas, you know you are going to get something from somebody. The difference between us and the disciples is that they didn't know when they would receive the Promise and be endued with power from on high. We know when Christmas is coming. Even if our family chooses another day to celebrate the tradition of giving, we know when that day will be; however he disciples did not know when that would be.
They know they are to wait in Jerusalem.
They know they will receive the Promise.
They know they will be endued with power.
Sounds like a good incentive to wait where you have been told. Sometimes I wonder if we miss out on what God has promised us because we are not where God told us to wait. What if the disciples had not waited in Jerusalem. What then? What if they had not waited together? What if they fled Jerusalem because they were afraid? Would they have received the Promise that day?
Waiting. Tarrying. Sitting. Wondering. Focused. Sleeping. Praying. Waiting. Tarrying. Sitting. Wondering. Focused. Sleeping. Praying. Waiting. Tarrying...
How long would you wait?
All of us multitaskers would need to lay off the caffeine and seek the peace of God that surpasses all understanding because "not doing anything but waiting" just might drive us bonkers. But it just ain't happening without God. Keep in mind, Jesus only called three disciples to pray with Him in the garden the night of His arrest.
When Jesus is gave this instruction, they are not measuring how long they will tarry. Do you remember the last time God told You to wait? I think this also is why He gives us the Holy Spirit, He gives us patience to wait. I never really thought about or related the Holy Spirit providing patience, so that we can apply God's promises to us. That is funny. But keep in mind the disciples are waiting on the Holy Spirit, so they do not have access to divine patience.
How long would you wait?
Our waiting reveals:
Our trust in the one who made the promise.
Our love for the one who made the promise.
Our ability to give grace when the promise isn't fulfilled in our time-frame.
Our ability to give mercy when the unexpected prolongs the promise.
Our tenacity to remain hopeful and encouraged while we wait.
Father, You speak to us. You reveal Your Word to us and teach us things we do not comprehend. You desire for us to believe, without wavering, what You say. You ask us to petition You for the fulfillment of the things, dreams and the people You have promised we would encourage in Your ways, Your Word, and Your love. I ask for You to come and bring life to those who have waited a long time for promises, that have yet to be fulfilled. I pray You would fill them with hope and breathe life into their being. I ask for You to remind us of the promises You have made that You have answered. I pray we would remember and celebrate each one. I ask for You to remind us of the promises yet to come. I pray we would partner with our belief to see You fulfill those promises. Thank you for giving us hope to believe. Thank You for Your unwavering promise. When You speak, nothing can stop what You have put into motion. I pray we would renew our hope and declare Your promise into our very being. I pray we would set our mind on You and see the promise come to fruition. I pray for You to speak life into me and for discouragement to go in Jesus' name. I bind up doubt in the name of Jesus and release hope to fill my being and my faith to be restored in Your promises. I ask for the Holy Spirit to grow in me tenacity to hang on to the promises You have given me, believing, hoping, declaring each one in Jesus' name amen.
A Warrior in the Lord’s Army,

My hope is for Believers in Jesus Christ to join together each day to pray, to push back the enemy as we release God’s power here on earth against the coronavirus, riots, and lies.
