Matthew 4:4 (NKJV) But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”
How many times have we heard children say, "I'm not going to! I'm not going to eat that!" I recognize by my profession, that I am focused on healthy eating. However, I also believe we need to eat healthy from God's Word. Sometimes we focus on the negative, the hardships people had to endure, the discipline of the Lord, and see ourselves living in the constant battle against the enemy. Yes, all of those are in the Bible; however, they are not the focus. They are not the only verses we need to be eating from the Bible. We need to have read these in order to recognize God's involvement.
The hardships people had to endure. God sustained them and brought them out.
The discipline of the Lord lead to wisdom, humility, and a grateful heart.
The constant battle against the enemy reminds us of the victories we win each day.
The enemy is relentless; however, God is victorious. God leads us into triumph, if we walk with Him. We need to know the Bible in it's entirety. We can learn from the happenings in other's lives. We can learn from the battles they fought. We can learn from the discipline they received. We can learn from the hardships they faced. We learn how God responded to their hardship. He came in and gave them strength to endure. He came just like He said He would. We can learn from their disciple that if we chose to resist walking according to the flesh, in our own ways, and serve God only, we will not be disciplined. We see God blessing His chosen people. You and I are chosen by God to be in His family and live under His umbrella of blessing. We can learn how others fought the enemy, called on God and did exactly what He said to do. We can learn God shows up to the battle before we get there.
When reading the Bible, eat of the entire history given. Make sure you take special note of how God responds, rescues, restores, and redeems His people and time. Don't allow your mind to focus on the hardships and battles. They will come. Every one of us will face them. Every situation is different. You and I need to know that it doesn't matter what the hardship is or the battle line the enemy has set up, when we remain in Christ, when we inquire of the Lord, He will lead us to victory. He will get us through. We are not to stop and dwell in the hardship or the battle. We are to end it and move on. Joshua cried out to God, "Make the sun stand still so we can defeat our enemy." And God did. The sun stood still and the Israelites routed their enemy. Don't run from the battle. Fight and ask for strength to finish the fight the enemy started.
