I Want Him with Me

Warriors Arise: January 8, 2023

2 Samuel 6:1-2 (NKJV) Again David gathered all the choice men of Israel, thirty thousand. 2 And David arose and went with all the people who were with him from Baale Judah to bring up from there the ark of God, whose name is called by the Name, the Lord of Hosts, who dwells between the cherubim.

I believe David wanted the presence of God with him in Jerusalem; because he wanted the daily reminder that God is the one who selected him. It reminds me of Moses in the wilderness with the children of Israel when God tried to send Moses on without Him, "Unless You go with me, I will not go." That is what Moses told God. David also wanted God with him. He watched King Saul rule without God. He saw the distressing spirit that came upon King Saul, without God's presence. I wonder if it scared him more than Scripture says. When he became king there were no prophets to the king or judges in the land. Samuel had passed away. God is the one who made the crooked places straight. God is the one who gave him patience while waiting for the people to do as God instructed. God is the one who sent Samuel to his father's house and anointed him to be the next king of Israel. He knew he would need God, His very presence with him, where he dwelt. He knew the presence of God dwelt between the cherubim upon the Ark of the Covenant. David would be king and he would have the presence of God with him.

I wonder if David was remembering of the stories of Samuel as a child. I wonder if Samuel shared his childhood experience with David at the meal they shared together where he was anointed to be the next king of Israel. I wonder if Samuel tried to instill within David the importance of seeking, listening and being in the presence of God. Maybe Samuel told David of the night when he was sleeping in front of the Ark of the Covenant and God called his name. What a wonderful and yet frightful night! God calling my name and speaking clearly. How could you go to sleep after that! For whatever reason, David wanted God with him. I have to ask myself, do I? Do I pursue God wholeheartedly to be in His presence?

Father, I want You with me. I am incredibly thankful for Holy Spirit who dwells within me. I am truly blessed to have Holy Spirit. I pursue You. I desire to be in Your presence. I know times are different, but that doesn't mean you are. You Word says you never change. I believe You want me to pursue You and be in Your presence. I will seek You. I will find You. For You desire to be found. I will honor You and magnify Your name. I will listen and be led by You. I desire to be in Your presence in Jesus' name amen.
