Warriors Arise: March 26, 2021
Daniel 6:16 (NKJV ) So the king gave the command, and they brought Daniel and cast him into the den of lions...
Most of us can say we have felt like we have experienced something like this. Literally, we haven't. However, the betrayal Daniel experienced was real. He served faithfully since God brought him from Jerusalem to Babylon. He prayed and was not ashamed of God. He did not abandon God but the enemy sure could have told him, "See, God doesn't care about you. He could have protected you. He could have prevented this but He didn't."
When you are being cast into the lions den what lies is the enemy telling you? We may say terms like, "They hung me out to dry."
"They threw me under the bus."
"They ran me over with the bus, backed, and did it again!"
"This was a set up!"
At this point, the king made his decision. He commanded the guards to get you and throw you into the lions den. There is no one to plead your case. There is no one to testify to your righteousness. There is no one who wants the truth. There is no one who even cares for the truth. Yes, Daniel prayed to God and not to King Darius. Was that wrong? Most of us would say the decree was built upon treason, stroking the arrogance of the king, and thinking the people of the kingdom needed to revere the new king. The king was played but to the governors who wanted to get rid of Daniel that didn't matter. No one wanted to hear what was out-of-line with their logic. So, the unbelievable happened. The king's most trusted governor is cast into the lion's den.
To Cast means to throw something forcefully in a specified direction. When the Bible says Daniel was cast into the lions den, I believe he was cast into the lions den. I do not believe he walked into the lions' den. I do not believe he was lowered into the lion's den. He was thrown. They fed the lions from an opening in the top of their den.
Have you been in a situation that was so out-of-control; like someone was throwing you into the lion's den? You didn't even know if you would hit bottom and die on impact or from the betrayal and deceit or if you would be crushed or torn apart in the fall. In the fall you weren't sure if God had heard your prayers, why had He allowed this, or what was the purpose of your life. You experience the fall and some may feel like they are still falling. The betrayal at work, or the terrifying diagnosis from the doctor, all overwhelm your mind as you are cast into the lion's den. You have no idea what will happen on impact. You don't even know if your heart will keep beat or if fear stops your heart during the fall. When will the fall end? What will happen when you hit bottom?
Father, I ask for You to give me strength. Your Word says in my weakness You are strong. I have been in atrocious situations, fear all around, and my heart hurt by the betrayal. I was cast into a place of darkness and didn't know where bottom was at. I ask for You to give me peace that surpasses all understanding. You are my God and You will hold me when I feel like I am falling apart. You are my God and Your arms will reach out and steady my stance. You are my God and Your love will speak peace to my heart. You are my God and my mind will know the goodness of Your faithfulness. You are my God and there is no other in Jesus' name amen.
