Warriors Arise: July 27, 2022
1 Samuel 17:43-45 (NKJV) So the Philistine said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. 44 And the Philistine said to David, “Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field!” 45 Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
What does a man's weapons matter when they have to come up against someone who actually believes God is on their side? A sword is not more powerful than a man who calls on the name of the Lord of hosts. What good is your opponent's spear when faced with the God of the armies of Israel? The javelin that your enemy is so skilled at throwing can't stop what he is about to get, because he defied God.
The Philistine points out David's stick and he points out the sword, spear, and javelin of the Philistine. The Philistine was a giant. Do you see your enemy as a giant? Do you see yourself as a youth, ruddy, and maybe even good looking?
The size of the warrior as nothing to do with this battle.
The size of the weapon has nothing to do with this battle.
But the size of the the God had EVERYTHING to do with this battle.
The Philistine's god was not living; it had no power; and it couldn't hear or speak a word. David's God, the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel is living, has all the power to defeat any foe, can hear everything being said and speaks.
This has nothing to do with skill or weaponry or military training. It had everything to do with the Living God. His people would not be defeated as long as there would be one person who would take a stand against the enemy.
You may think you are not a warrior. So why should you pray, confront the enemy, and stand up for the injustice unfolding before you. God desires to overturn the injustice, when you confront the enemy because you have prayed.
You may think you are not skilled with the weapons the enemy is using, so why volunteer to fight the enemy. He is clearly more skilled in weaponry than you. But God desires for you to use the weapons He has trained you with. Take the Word of God, operate in wisdom and courage as you take the battle field.
You may think you don't know if God wants you to fight this battle, so you turn and walk away allowing the enemy to take your promise, what God has promised you. But God has said for you to take the battlefield and He will fight your battle for you. You do what He has trained you to do and He will handle the rest.
This battle wasn't about the Philstine and it wasn't about David. It was about God proving what He could do through one person who set his heart on taking the battle against the thief who had come to steal what God had given them. It is very similar to Elijah taking on the Jezebel's false prophets at Mt. Carmel. That wasn't about the battle between Elijah, one prophet of God and Jezebel's 850 false prophets. It was God demonstrating He is the only God and there is no other. No other nation on earth had a god who was real. God made the people. He is the living God.
Stop making every battle about you. We rarely win when the battle is about us verse them. We win when we see the battle is about God working through us over the enemy who is working to steal from us. The battle is about God not you and me. We just get the opportunity to be a part of the battle if we will boldly step onto the battlefield. The battle is about God being shown through His people to be more powerful than any great warrior or enemy who challenges to take what He has given us.
Father, open my mind to see that the battles I face are not about me. They are about You. The enemy wants me to think it is about me, my shortcomings, my flaws, my weaknesses, my age, my inability, and my feebleness, but You want me to see it has nothing to do with me. It has to do with You. It has to do with me joining You, allowing You to be on display though my peace, courage, and confidence in You. I will not surrender what You have given me and my family. It is not time and never will be time for me to throw in the towel, because the enemy has come to steal from me. I will stand up and be willing to set the injustice right. I will step into the training You have given me. I will step out onto the battle field. You will go before me and remove the giant from occupying what You have promised me in Jesus' name amen.
