1 Chronicles 15:1 (NKJV) David built houses for himself in the City of David; and he prepared a place for the ark of God, and pitched a tent for it.
When looking to buy a house or build a house every realtor know the top three reasons people buy a house:
Location
Location
Location
David and his men conquered his own city. It was a city in Judah. It was not in the territory of the tribe of Benjamin, Saul's family. Judah is David's heritage, his family, the tribe He was born into. He would be surrounded by his people, his family. Judah was the first tribe to recognize David as the next king of Israel. They knew God had sent Samuel to anoint David.
Where? Where does God want you to be established? Is this scary to ask? Are you afraid of where God may send you? Or are you afraid he may tell you to stay? If you can't ask the question then there is another problem.
We can't ask, because we have limits what God can tell us to do. We have a problem: either we don't trust God or we are the god in our life. What confirms that you are exactly where God wants you to be? That is the wrong question. Who confirms that you are exactly where God wants you to be?
This isn't a pro and con list. This is hearing God or turning a deaf ear to God. Too many of us are the frog in the pot. We do not realize the water is being turned up, getting hotter and leading to our death. All the frog had to do was jump out. He was in the wrong location. He had found the wrong water. You may not physically die, but your calling, purpose and destiny may never be fulfilled to the extent God intended.
Are you willing to ask God?
Mostly likely, David didn't want to live where Saul had established his kingship; so he didn't have the same situation as you or me. David had lived all of his life out in the open fields as a shepherd, open hills as a warrior, caves as a fugitive, and cities not of his people. The one site he had established a home was burnt to the ground. Now, he was back home. He was in Israel. Where would God lead him to be established?
Father, this is not easy. I do trust You. Therefore, I will ask. Is this where you want me to be established? I am open to stay. I am available to go. I will listen for You to lead me. When it is time for me to be established and have roots in the ground, I want them to be exactly where You want them. I will go in and out doing what You have called me to do from that established focal point. I trust You. I make myself available to be moved when You say it is time to move. I will go with You in Jesus' name amen.
