Warriors Arise: May 7th, 2020
So you take one more look inside, one more look back at what you thought your future would have been but can never be now. In that look, God meets you.
John 20:11-12, "But Mary stood outside by the tomb weeping, and as she wept she stooped down and looked into the tomb. And she saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain."
God knew Mary would need His love to reach out and be there for her. God met Mary in a place she couldn't leave. Peter and John could leave, they marveled at the sight in the tomb then went to ponder, to remember what Jesus had said. But Mary, she needed one more look inside. She was not ready to leave.
As a woman, it would have been her responsibility to put the body at rest, to anoint Jesus' body before final burial. In fulfilling her responsibility, there would have been the beginning of closure. Without fulfilling her responsibility, closure was almost impossible. How could she go forward? The wound in her heart was gaping open. The one thing she could do was to give Jesus an honored burial, but she was denied that. The very body of Jesus was gone.
Mary looked inside one more time. There was no way she would have expected two angels there. Peter and John had left; she would have heard if there had been a conversation. They said nothing. But now, as she looked inside, two angels in the tomb. It makes me wonder if the angels were there to deliver a message or if they wanted to personally see how people would respond knowing Jesus was gone; He is alive! Could you imagine?
This time, they are not delivering a message. I think they might even be confused. Mary has already been told Jesus is alive! He is not here. By the first messenger angel when she was with Mary, and Salome. Yet, she returned and is weeping as if something has really gone terribly wrong.
Warriors we need to pray because there has been so much that has gone wrong but God want to meet with people. His love will reach from heaven to earth during this time. He will be there for those who are grieving, those who are angry, those who are stuck not knowing what to do now.
Dear heavenly Father, You are with us today. You have been with us before the coronavirus existed. You will get us through these international devastations. It is so odd to see how this has caused people be angry. People are angry because they are quarantined. People are angry because others are not quarantined. People are angry for who they have lost and what they have lost. I ask for You to come and minister Your love to those who are angry. They are hurting. In their anger they may shake their fist at You but what they really need is to have Your arms wrap around them. I ask for You to reach down from heaven and pour out Your love over the earth. I ask for every person to know the fullness of Your love. You did not want people to suffer like this. You want people to repent, turn to You, and walk in the blessings You have for them. You want people to know Your amazing peace that surpasses all understanding. So much loss has happened in the last couple of months. I ask for people to receive a touch of Your love to know You are real. You want them to look inside their heart to know You are with them. I ask for people to open their minds to understand You do not want to see them go through this pain. You want them to let You lead them to a better place, to walk in the fullness of what Jesus died to give them. You want them to trust You will bring them through the pain. I ask for those who are weeping to know, "Weeping may endure for the night but joy comes in the morning." You are God. There is no other who will comfort us through the tears. There is no one else who knows what we need. You know weeping is necessary but joy comes. Thank You God for not letting us remain in our weeping. Thank You for leading us through each and every dark and difficult time. This is a time when people can't see out of the darkness. I ask for You to guide them with Your love. I ask for You to lead them through the night. I ask for the morning to come and joy to be in the very depths of who they are. I ask for You to bring life as they look inside again in Jesus' name amen.
