Look Where You Are

Warriors Arise: March 25, 2023

1 Chronicles 16:7-20 (NKJV) On that day David first delivered this psalm into the hand of Asaph and his brethren, to thank the Lord:

8 Oh, give thanks to the Lord!

Call upon His name;

Make known His deeds among the peoples!

9 Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him;

Talk of all His wondrous works!

10 Glory in His holy name;

Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord!

11 Seek the Lord and His strength;

Seek His face evermore!

12 Remember His marvelous works which He has done,

His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth,

13 O seed of Israel His servant,

You children of Jacob, His chosen ones!

14 He is the Lord our God;

His judgments are in all the earth.

15 Remember His covenant forever,

The word which He commanded, for a thousand generations,

16 The covenant which He made with Abraham,

And His oath to Isaac,

17 And confirmed it to Jacob for a statute,

To Israel for an everlasting covenant,

18 Saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaan

As the allotment of your inheritance,”

19 When you were few in number,

Indeed very few, and strangers in it.

20 When they went from one nation to another,

And from one kingdom to another people,

Abraham, Isaac and Jacob seemed to be nomads in the land God had promised them. They traveled to Egypt and the other side of the Jordan. They were in the land of the Amalekites, Moabites and the Midianites. In some places they were there so long they dug wells. In Genesis 26, Isaac is considering going to down to Egypt because, once again, there is famine in the land. But God tells him to stay. Through the famine and over the years, Isaac becomes more prosperous and numerous than the Philistines who live in the city near him. the Philistines envied him. They filled up all of his wells with earth and asked him to leave, "For you are mightier that we." Even though Isaac knew this was God's land for him, he packed up and pitched his tent in Gerar and dug wells there.

Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob all moved from one nation to another, from one kingdom to another people. They may have been numerous, enough to battle another city; however, they were not numerous enough to establish themselves in all the land God had promised. When others in the land experience famine, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob prospered until it was time for the fulfillment of God's Word.

Genesis 15:13-16 (NKJV) Then He said to Abram: “Know certainly that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them, and they will afflict them four hundred years. 14 And also the nation whom they serve I will judge; afterward they shall come out with great possessions. 15 Now as for you, you shall go to your fathers in peace; you shall be buried at a good old age. 16 But in the fourth generation they shall return here, for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete.”

This was their final and most devastating time of their family. But it didn't last forever. It was long, hard, and unbearable, but God followed through and He brought them out and with great possessions.

David reminded them of the small beginnings, their forefathers had no place to establish as their own. He reminded them the worst was over. He reminded them they were living this side of slavery. He reminded them they had the abundance of what God had promised. Not only did they have the great possessions from the Egyptians, but they had houses already built and vineyards already planted when they came into the land God promised them.

From the small beginning of digging wells and pitching tents to being established in the promise is something to give worship, praise and honor to God.

Father, yes, there were times I felt like I was a slave in Egypt; but that time is over. I am so blessed to be free from the life of slavery. I am so blessed to be through the wilderness. I am thoroughly grateful for the promise You have given me. I am beyond words to praise You for teaching me to battle, so I would be prepared to be established in what You have promised. I will not forsake You. I will make You a priority in my life and in my household. I will worship You for what You have done and what You are doing. I will lift Your name on high because of the abundance of favor for the expansion of Your kingdom here on earth. I am grateful to be here and worship You. I am excited to exhort Christians and share the Gospel. You have always been faithful and will continue. I will worship You in Jesus' name amen.
